  2. Objective • At the end of this lesson, the class will understand that temptation can lead to disobedience which in turn can end in destruction.

  3. Events • The story of Sodom and Gomorrah is told to the class and what happened to Lot’s wife because of her disobedience not to look back is highlighted. • The rest of the story about temptation to follow easy path in life and the outcome as it happened to Christian and Hopeful is told to the class. • The class is given a home work to read pages 107 to 115 and prepare to answer some questions on the content.

  4. Summary • The Puritans of the 17th century were mindful of what happened to people in the Bible and used it to guide themselves. (Examples of Lot’s wife-pillar of salt; Korah,Dachan and Abiram with 250 who perished in their sin) • Puritans believed that Christian will face temptation by following easy paths rather than hard ones and there are always dangers attached to such easy paths. • Over confidence without seeking God’s will can sometimes lead a Christian away from the right way and others can also be mislead. • It is good to admit one’s mistake and it is also godly to forgive. • After a period of ease by the River of the water of life, Christian and Hopeful faced their man-made fears after committing the unpardonable sin. • When in deep trouble and distress, some Christians can contemplate suicide. Bunyan knew some of his fellow church members who had been driven to suicide when in distress. • Puritans believed that when Christians are in a kind of trouble (dungeon), God’s promise that “I will never leave not forsake you” can always be depended upon. Through His reliable promise, Christian and Hopeful got out of Giant-Despair’s imprisonment and were soon away on their way to the Celestial city gate. • The Puritans believe in the reality of Heaven and Hell as Bunyan depicts in his story about “by-way to hell
