LQS ProjectQoS Client Protocol Jochen Eisl ICM N PG SP RC 27-08-2002
Presentation Overview • CASP QoS Feature Overview • Reservation Range • Partial Reservation • Advance Reservation • Resource Query • Reserve / Commit Mechanism • Local Information • Mobility Showcase ICM N templ-example.ppt 12/07/2001
Reservation Range • Specification of upper and lower resource threshold • Nodes reserve highest amount below maximum • Nodes with higher reservation are updated on return path • Message reduction • Support for adaptive application ICM N templ-example.ppt 12/07/2001
Partial Reservation (PR) • Reservation initially may fail at some nodes • Application may accept „backholes“ for some time • PR objects includes • Counters to record number of failed hops (C1) • Counters with acceptable number of failed hops (C2) • Retry flag • Reservation fails at any node, if C1 > C2 • Application of local algorithm if retry flag is set • Enhanced resource utilization • Higher chance of service delivery • New accounting & charging schemes ICM N templ-example.ppt 12/07/2001
Advance Reservation • Resource reservation at any time in future • Time object includes start / end time in NTP format • Potential feature for conference applications • Periodic reservation seems attractive but needs further investigation ICM N templ-example.ppt 12/07/2001
Resource Query • Query resources before requesting them • Return of response message with status object • Status object includes for each hop • Node idendity • Success of (potential) reservation • Failure reasons • Reservation idendity (version) • Resources don‘t have to be allocated • 3rd party query to coordinate resource allocation among different parties ICM N templ-example.ppt 12/07/2001
Reserve / Commit Mechanism • Reserve assigns resources – „soft state reservation“ • Commit allocates resources for exclusive use –„hard state reservation“ • Receiver / Sender oriented reservation • Priority object for reservation priority • Fast reservation of resources (first message) RESV message (RSVP) • Efficient resource usage • Applicable for mobility handover ICM N templ-example.ppt 12/07/2001
Local Information • CASP- QoS carries local information • Information insertion / deletion by „any“ node • Examples for local information • Authorization token • DSCP • Aggregation • Accounting & charging • Syntax and path information decoupled from the protocol • Minimize transport of information overhead • Authorization of sink / source nodes ICM N templ-example.ppt 12/07/2001
