Some interesting facts about applications... 2012 • Just 2.6% drop in 18 year olds ( as opposed to 11% drop in mature students) • International applications up by 10.5% – 53,252 in total 2011 • Over 83,000 second-time applicants • More than 4,000 applicants received no offers from any of their five choices

5. 2013 Apply • It went live on Tuesday 12 June • It is anticipated that over 100,000 applicants will register by third week in July 2012

UCAS Progress - Introduction • Planned to be a ‘one-stop’ index of education and training opportunities • Developed in conjunction with 11-16 and 11-18 schools and academies, colleges and work-based learning providers, as well as local authorities • 88 Local Authority areas involved (England & Wales)

12. Features and benefits • Single online course directory – no LA boundaries • Supports initiatives like Raising Participation Age (RPA) and September Guarantee • Designed to provide information and support to young people through the key stages from the age of 13

19. What’s happening in 2012? February – April April – May June Consultation with all stakeholders Analysis & reporting UCAS Board Online responses Events Final recommendations for new QI system In June 2012, the QIR team will present the final version of the proposed model to the UCAS board, supported by feedback gained during the consultation. If the board approves the recommendations then it is anticipated that initial QIPs would be available by September 2013 and that existing Tariffed qualifications would also be given an SDS rating by this date.

Challenges raised about post-results applications • Compression of key activities - exams, marking and HEI decision making • Loss of teaching time • Lack of time for HEI and applicant relationship building • Loss of motivational effect of offers • Lack of school support over the summer • Insufficient time to prepare for entering HE • UCAS is not recommending a move to post-results applications
