How the Document was Organized • Table of Contents • Appendix List for Each Chapter • - Names all appendix documents by chapter • Executive Summary • - Explains the design of the document, lists the significant changes since the last self-study and gives a very brief overview of each chapter • Introduction • Explains who we are, how we are configured, and details significant improvements since our last review
Chapter 1 – Mission, Goals and Integrity • Standard 1 – Mission and Goals – Describing the development process and relevance of both our former mission statement and our new mission statement: To create exemplary citizens and leaders to serve the nation and the world of the 21st century. We provide a transformational liberal-arts based education, strengthened by experiential learning, which challenges students to develop their intellectual curiosity and to realize, with purpose and integrity, their full personal and professional potential. • Standard 6 – Integrity – Demonstrating that Keuka’s Institutional, Academic and Civic Integrity is embodied through our policies, procedures and actions
Chapter 2 – Planning and Resources • Standard 2 – Planning, Resource Allocation, and Institutional Renewal - Demonstrating the effectiveness of how we plan, allocate resources and maintain our assets • Standard 3 – Institutional Resources - Demonstrating the effective use of the Human, Financial, Technical and Physical Resources of the Institution
Chapter 3 – Leadership, Governance and Administration • Standard 4 – Leadership and Governance – Describing how the institution is led, and the configuration of shared governance • Standard 5 - Administration - Describing the Administrative structure that supports the institution’s organization and governance
Chapter 4 – Institutional Effectiveness and Assessment of Student Learning • Standard 7 – Institutional Assessment - Demonstrating that Keuka utilizes appropriate assessment processes that evaluate the effectiveness of achieving the Institution’s mission • Standard 14 – Assessment of Student Learning – Demonstrating that at graduation or other points, the institution’s students have the knowledge, skills, and competencies consistent with institutional and appropriate higher education goals
Chapter 5 – Admissions, Retention and Support • Standard 8 – Student Admissions and Retention - Demonstrating that admissions and retention processes are consistent with the mission • Standard 9 - Student Support Services - Demonstrating that the institution provides student support services reasonably necessary to enable each student to achieve the institution’s goals for students.
Chapter 6 – The Faculty, Educational Offerings and General Education of Keuka College • Standard 10 – Faculty - Demonstrating thatthe institution’s instructional, research, and service programs are designed, monitored, and supported by qualified professionals. • Standard 11 – Educational Offerings - Demonstrating that the institution’s educational offerings display academic content, rigor, and coherence that are appropriate to its higher education mission. The institution identifies student learning goals and objectives, including knowledge and skills, for its educational offerings
Chapter 6 – Cont. • Standard 12 – General Education - Demonstrating that the institution’s curricula are designed so that students acquire and demonstrate college-level proficiency in general education and essential skills, including at least oral and written communication, scientific and quantitative reasoning, critical analysis and reasoning, and technological competency. • Standard 13 – Related Educational Activities Demonstrating that the institution’s programs or activities are characterized by particular content, focus, location, mode of delivery, or sponsorship that meet appropriate standards.

How You Can Prepare • Know the College Mission, Vision, Values as approved by Board in October 2012 • Know your own unit’s mission and goals– how do these goals support the Mission? • How do YOU support the College mission, your unit’s mission? • Consider which Middle States Standards are relevant to you and your unit • Consider your role in improving the effectiveness of your department and what improvements have been made recently and why (what assessment led to changes?)

Self Study Recommendations • Recommendations are reflected in new Strategic Plan • 22 total recommendations • Chapter 1: Conduct a branding exercise to specify what is distinctive about the Keuka educational experience. • Chapter 2: Create a new Master Plan that directly integrates with the Long Range Strategic Plan. • Chapter 3: Develop a comprehensive staff development plan that will strengthen employee skills and knowledge, support employee advancement, and provide stronger succession management.
Self Study Recommendations • Chapter 4: Ensure all Program and Gen Ed goals have measurable learning outcomes and established performance targets. • Chapter 5: Refine website content and navigation to support admissions and academic program strategies. • Chapter 6: Develop a comprehensive plan for ongoing professional development of faculty, including identification of resources needed to meet faculty growth, to support faculty teaching and research, and aligned with a master’s granting institution.
