Data Center Facility • Edgewebhosting.net’s Multi-Million Dollar Managed Hosting Center is located in one of the largest Carrier Hotels on the East Coast. • We occupy an entire floor of the facility and share no infrastructure resources with the other tenants. • The other tenants in the building are WilTel (Williams Communications), Level3 Communications, XO Communications, Adelphia/TelCove, Cavalier Telephone and Abovenet. • Additional fiber carriers within the building with fiber facilities include USLEC, MCI/WorldCom, AT&T, Xspedius, Verizon, Cogent and LiteCast along with several other major carriers. • The facility is the primary Internet interconnection point for the region. The building was designed from the ground up to be a facility for large-scale carriers and offers many amenities not available in other facilities.
Physical Security • Physical Security • 24 hour security staff is on-site 24/7/365 and no access is permitted without prior authorization and appropriate identification. • Coded access into facility • Access Control to Datacenter • Video Surveillance with history of activity.
Network Security • Cisco Border Routers running Secure IOS and BGP configurations. Primary TCP/UDP port and route blocking for bogons address are performed on core routers. • Dual Cisco 6509 Core Switches with additional access control lists. • Cisco EMI Distribution Switches with VLAN and ACLs on individual Ethernet Ports and Dual Gigabit uplinks to core. • PIX Firewalls in Failover configuration for packet inspection and specific blocking rules. • Intrusion Detections system with monitoring and alerting functions. • Planned for Q2, 2006 – Full packet anomaly system with AI intrusion prevention functions
Level 5 Commissioning Process • Our design and engineering team (Jack Dale Consulting Engineers) has performed two separate Level 5 integrated commissioning tests to simulate and document 5 years of potential critical failures and recovery operations within the facility. • Other major clients our engineers have designed facilities for include: • Citigroup, Discovery Communications, Time Inc., Sports Illustrated, Wachovia Bank, Verizon Wireless, Chevron Texaco, Microsoft, AOL Time Warner, and many others. • Level 5 Commissioning • Is a cross-division, or integrated systems, performance evaluation. Most construction teams will complete manufacturer and installer testing to show compliance to the various specification divisions (Div 15 Mechanical, Div 16 Electrics, Div 17 Controls, for example), but do not demonstrate how the systems operate together. Level 5 Commissioning demonstrates how the site infrastructure, such as chillers, pumping systems, uninterruptible power sources, static switches and engine-generators will likely perform as a system over the next 60 months. • This effort also provides performance and efficiency benchmarks to use • in diagnosing future maintenance needs.
Megapower and UPS Backup • The building contains it’s own BG&E power substation connected to two separate Baltimore City 13,200v power grids each fed by its own set of two additional substations. • Our facility is fed directly by grid power at 13.2kv and transformed to 480v within our facility. • Power is then filtered by a high capacity Transient Voltage Surge Suppression System (TVSS) filtering all grid power disturbances up to 1,000,000 Amps. • Power is then distributed to two completely separate, purposefully non-paralleled, but Phase Synchronized, 300kW PowerWare UPS systems each with 2 battery strings for redundancy. One UPS and one battery string is capable of maintaining 100% of our power load during transfer to generator. We maintain two UPS systems and four battery strings allowing for full concurrent maintainability of all electrical gear with no down time. • A separate Maintenance Bypass has been installed on each UPS allowing complete bypass of either UPS system incase of system malfunction. • Power is then transformed to usable 208/120 power, run through another TVSS and individually delivered from each UPS to each rack. 2 APC power Distribution units per Rack allow for power metering and user controllable access to individual outlets via web interface.
Generator and Fuel Backup Systems • A 750 kW generator with a 2300 Gallon 168 hour fuel supply is in place to backup utility grid power incase of failure. • Fuel Contracts in place to run on generator indefinitely. • Dual Diesel pump package is installed for fuel system redundancy.
HVAC & Fire Suppression • The Datacenter has been designed for n+2 raised floor down flow glycol cooling for 10 CRAC (Computer Room Air Conditioner) units. In our phase one construction 4 of the units along with 6 Dry Coolers (n+2) and Dual Glycol Pump Package (n+1) Dual Condensate Pumps are in place to ensure 100% redundancy and resilience of the entire cooling system. • The facility has both a FM-200 Dry system for fire suppression as well as a secondary pressurized pre-action dry-pipe wet system including full alarms and connections into the building management system. This provides double the amount of protection of most modern carrier/colo facilities.
