Ten months after the hull was launched, the Titanic was completed. In May 1911, the hull of the Titanic was launched in front of 100,000 people. On April 10, 1912, passengers boarded the Titanic for her maiden voyage. Fourteen years before the Titanic sank, in 1898, “The Wreck of the Titan” described a ghastly fictional disaster where a ship sank in almost the exact same way as the Titanic. On September 20, 1911 the Olympic crashed into a British navy ship. Its repairs delayed the work on the Titanic by 1 month.
