Story of Adam عليه السلام ICN Family Dars 2-13-13
Review • Last week we discussed reasons why Shaytaan did not make sajdah to Adam عليه السلام • Ujb (Conceit) • Pride • Envy • False Analogy • Self-Righteous Attitude • Sense of Entitlement
Conversation Between Shaytaan and Allah • قَالَ فَاهْبِطْ مِنْهَا فَمَا يَكُونُ لَكَ أَن تَتَكَبَّرَ فِيهَا فَاخْرُجْ إِنَّكَ مِنَ الصَّـغِرِينَ - قَالَ أَنظِرْنِى إِلَى يَوْمِ يُبْعَثُونَ - قَالَ إِنَّكَ مِنَ المُنظَرِينَ • (13. (Allah) said: "(O Iblis) get down from this (Paradise), it is not for you to be arrogant here. Get out, for you are of those humiliated and disgraced.''14. (Iblis) said: "Allow me relief till the Day they are raised up (the Day of Resurrection).'' 15. (Allah) said: "You are of those given relief.'')
Shaytaan Did Not Take Responsibility For His Actions • فَبِمَآ أَغْوَيْتَنِى لأَقْعُدَنَّ لَهُمْ صِرَطَكَ الْمُسْتَقِيمَ • "Because You have `Aghwaytani', surely, I will sit in wait against them (human beings) on Your straight path.'') • meaning, as You have sent me astray. Ibn `Abbas said that `Aghwaytani' means, "Misguided me.'' Others said, • "As You caused my ruin, I will sit in wait for Your servants whom You will create from the offspring of the one you expelled me for.''
Hijr verse 38-39 • Allah informed about the rebellion and arrogance of Iblis, in that he said to the Allah • بِمَآ أَغْوَيْتَنِى • (Because You misled me,) i.e., because You misled me and misguided me. (I shall indeed adorn the path of error for them) meaning, for the progeny of Adam. • فِى الاٌّرْضِ (on the earth,) meaning - I will make sin dear to them, and will encourage, provoke and harass them to commit sin. • وَلأُغْوِيَنَّهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ • (and I shall mislead them all.) meaning - just as You have misled me and have ordained that for me. • إِلاَّ عِبَادَكَ مِنْهُمُ الْمُخْلَصِينَ • (Except Your chosen, (guided) servants among them.)
Al-Israa 61 • قَالَ أَرَءَيْتَكَ هَـذَا الَّذِى كَرَّمْتَ عَلَىَّ • (He said: "See this one whom You have honored above me...'') • Ibn `Abbas said, "He is saying, `I am going to dominate his offspring, all but a few.'‘ • "Do You see this one whom You have honored and made greater than me If You give me time, I will lead his descendants astray, all but a few of them
Shaytaan Will Come From Different Directions • ثُمَّ لآتِيَنَّهُم مِّن بَيْنِ أَيْدِيهِمْ • (Then I will come to them from in front of them) Raising doubts in them concerning their Hereafter, • وَمِنْ خَلْفِهِمْ(and (from) behind them), making them more eager for this life, • وَعَنْ أَيْمَـنِهِمْ (from their right), causing them confusion in the religion, • وَعَن شَمَآئِلِهِمْ (and from their left) luring them to commit sins.'' This is meant to cover all paths of good and evil. • Shaytan discourages the people from the path of good and lures them to the path of evil. Ibn `Abbas concerning the Ayah, • ثُمَّ لآتِيَنَّهُم مِّن بَيْنِ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَمِنْ خَلْفِهِمْ وَعَنْ أَيْمَـنِهِمْ وَعَن شَمَآئِلِهِمْ • (Then I will come to them from before them and behind them, from their right and from their left,) "He did not say that he will come from above them, because the mercy descends from above.''
Hadeeth Telling Us About Shaytaan’s Persistence • (Shaytan sits in wait for the Son of Adam in all his paths. He sat in the path of Islam, saying, `Would you embrace Islam and abandon your religion and the religion of your forefathers‘ However, the Son of Adam disobeyed Shaytan and embraced Islam. • So Shaytan sat in the path of Hijrah (migration in the cause of Allah), saying, `Would you migrate and leave your land and sky' But the parable of the Muhajir is that of a horse in his stamina So, he disobeyed Shaytan and migrated. • So Shaytan sat in the path of Jihad, against one's self and with his wealth, saying, `If you fight, you will be killed, your wife will be married and your wealth divided.' So he disobeyed him and performed Jihad. • Therefore, whoever among them (Children of Adam) does this and dies, it will be a promise from Allah that He admits him into Paradise. If he is killed, it will be a promise from Allah that He admits him into Paradise. If he drowns, it will be a promise from Allah that He admits him into Paradise. If the animal breaks his neck, it will be a promise from Allah that He admits him into Paradise.)
Dua of the Messenger of Allah I ask You for well-being in this life and the Hereafter. O Allah! I ask You for pardon and well-being in my religion, life, family and wealth. O Allah! Cover my errors and reassure me in times of difficulty. O Allah! Protect me from in front ofme, from behind me, from my right, from my left and from above me. I seek refuge with Your greatness from being killed from below me.)'‘ • Recommended to read this in the morning and evening
Some Other Tricks of Shaytaan • وَاسْتَفْزِزْ مَنِ اسْتَطَعْتَ مِنْهُمْ بِصَوْتِكَ • (And fool them gradually those whom you can among them with your voice,) It was said that this refers to singing. Mujahid said, "With idle entertainment and singing,'' meaning, distract them with that. • Ibn `Abbas said, "Every caller who calls people to disobey Allah.'‘ • وَأَجْلِبْ عَلَيْهِم بِخَيْلِكَ وَرَجِلِكَ • (Ajib upon them with your cavalry and your infantry.) Send your troops and cavalry and infantry against them. The meaning is, send whatever forces you have at your disposal against them. • Qatadah said, "He has infantry and cavalry among the Jinn and among humans. They are the ones who obey him.''
Through Wealth and Children • وَشَارِكْهُمْ فِى الاٌّمْوَلِ وَالاٌّوْلَـدِ • (and share with them wealth and children,) Ibn `Abbas and Mujahid said, "This means what he commands them to do of spending money in disobedience to Allah, may He be exalted.'' • وَالاٌّوْلْـدِ • (and children,) Ibn' Abbas, as reported by Al-`Awfi, Mujahid and Ad-Dahhak said, "This means the children of Zina (i.e., illegitimate children).'' • Ibn `Abbas said, "This means the children whom they used to kill out of folly, without knowledge.'' • Al-Hasan Al-Basri said: "Allah caused Shaytan to take a share of wealth and children by making them Magians, Jews and Christians, and making them follow any religion other than Islam, and by making them give a part of their wealth to the Shaytan.''
Importance of Remembering Allah in All Situations • لَوْ أَنَّ أَحَدَهُمْ إِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَأْتِيَ أَهْلَهُ قَالَ: بِسْمِ اللهِ اللَّهُمَّ جَنِّبْنَا الشَّيْطَانَ وَجَنِّبِ الشَّيْطَانَ مَا رَزَقْتَنَا فَإِنَّهُ إِنْ يُقَدَّرْ بَيْنَهُمَا وَلَدٌ فِي ذَلِكَ لَمْ يَضُرَّهُ الشَّيْطَانُ أَبَدًا» • (When one of you wants to have intercourse with his wife, let him say, `In the Name of Allah. O Allah, keep us away from Shaytan and keep Shaytan away from what you bestow on us (children).' Then if a child is decreed for them from that, the Shaytan will never harm him.)
False Promises • وَعِدْهُمْ وَمَا يَعِدُهُمُ الشَّيْطَـنُ إِلاَّ غُرُورًا • ("...and make promises to them.'' But Shaytan promises them nothing but deceit.) As Allah tells us, Iblis will say, on the Day when the matter is decided: • إِنَّ اللَّهَ وَعَدَكُمْ وَعْدَ الْحَقِّ وَوَعَدتُّكُمْ فَأَخْلَفْتُكُمْ • (Verily, Allah promised you a promise of truth. And I too promised you, but I betrayed you.) ﴿14:22 • يَعِدُهُمْ وَيُمَنِّيهِمْ وَمَا يَعِدُهُمُ الشَّيْطَانُ إِلَّا غُرُورًا (120) • 120. He [Shaitan (Satan)] makes promises to them, and arouses In them false desires; and Shaitan's (Satan) promises are nothing but deceptions. • الشَّيْطَانُ يَعِدُكُمُ الْفَقْرَ وَيَأْمُرُكُمْ بِالْفَحْشَاءِ وَاللَّهُ يَعِدُكُمْ مَغْفِرَةً مِنْهُ وَفَضْلًا وَاللَّهُ وَاسِعٌ عَلِيمٌ (268) • 268. Shaitân (Satan) threatens You with poverty and orders You to commit Fahshâ (evil deeds, illegal sexual intercourse, sins etc.); whereas Allâh promises You Forgiveness from himself and Bounty, and Allâh is All-Sufficient for his creatures' needs, All-Knower
Tricks of Shaytaan Cont… • Enters through what a person wants and desires • Adam and Hawaa عليهما السلام • Instilling Doubts • Sahabah went to the Prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم and said they found something so terrible they could not put into words. He صلى الله عليه و سلم said Do you really find that? They said yes and He said that is a sign of clear faith • حَدَّثَنَا خَلاَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى، حَدَّثَنَا مِسْعَرٌ، حَدَّثَنَا قَتَادَةُ، حَدَّثَنَا زُرَارَةُ بْنُ أَوْفَى، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، يَرْفَعُهُ قَالَ " إِنَّ اللَّهَ تَجَاوَزَ لأُمَّتِي عَمَّا وَسْوَسَتْ أَوْ حَدَّثَتْ بِهِ أَنْفُسَهَا، مَا لَمْ تَعْمَلْ بِهِ أَوْ تَكَلَّمْ • Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, "Allah forgives my followers those (evil deeds) their souls may whisper or suggest to them as long as they do not act (on it) or speak." ...
Intoxicants, Gambling, Ansaab, and Azlaam Allah said (91) 90. O You who believe! Intoxicants (all kinds of alcoholic drinks), gambling, AlAnsâb , and AlAzlâm (arrows for seeking luck or decision) are an abomination of Shaitân's (Satan) handiwork. so avoid (strictly all) that (abomination) In order that You may be successful . 91. Shaitân (Satan) wants Only to excite enmity and Hatred between You with Intoxicants (alcoholic drinks) and gambling, and hinder You from the remembrance of Allâh and from As-Salât (the prayer). So, will You not Then abstain?

Verily, He is All-Hearer, All-Knower
When to seek refuge • When entering the washroom • At times of anger • وعن سليمان بن صرد رضي الله عنه قال: كنت جالساً مع النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم، ورجلان يستبان، وأحدهما قد احمر وجهه، وانتفخت أوداجه. ... • Sulaiman bin Surad (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: I was sitting with the Prophet (PBUH) when two men began to quarrel and curse each other and the face of one of them turned red and the veins of his neck were swollen (from rage). Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "I know of a word, if he were to utter that, his rage would vanish and that is: A'udhu billahi minash-Shaitan nir-rajim (I seek refuge with Allah from Satan, the accursed)." So they (Companions) said to him: "The Prophet (PBUH) tells you to utter: 'I seek refuge with Allah from Satan, the accursed". [Al-Bukhar iand Muslim].
Important Times To Seek Refuge Before intercourse ... Keep us away from Satan and keep Satan away from what You have bestowed upon us);' and if Allah has ordained a child for them, Satan will never harm him."[Al-Bukhari and Muslim Stopping for rest on a journey When reading Quran
Adhering to the Jamah of Muslims The Prophet () said: The Jews were split up into seventy-one or seventy-two sects; and the Christians were split up into seventy one or seventy-two sects; and my community will be split up into seventy-three sects.
Repentance People make mistakes and shaytaan uses these mistakes to mislead people If we repent with sincerity Allah will forgive us (71) 68. and those who invoke not any other Ilâh (God) along with Allâh, nor kill such life as Allâh has forbidden, except for just Cause, nor commit illegal sexual intercourse and whoever does This shall receive the punishment. 69. the torment will be doubled to Him on the Day of Resurrection, and He will abide therein In disgrace;70. except those who repent and believe (in Islâmic Monotheism), and do righteous deeds, for those, Allâh will change their sins into good deeds, and Allâh is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.71. and Whosoever repents and does righteous good deeds, Then Verily, He repents towards Allâh with true repentance.
Not Leaving Room for Suspicion and Doubt (53) 53. and Say to My slaves (i.e. the true believers of Islâmic Monotheism) that they should (only) Say those Words that are the best. (because) Shaitân (Satan) Verily, sows disagreements among them. surely, Shaitân (Satan) is to man a plain enemy.
