The projectile height formula • H=-16t2+vot+so • You take the given numbers from the story and plug them into the formula. • H=height , t=time , v= velocity , and s= starting point.
Examples • Suppose a ball is thrown from a height of 200 feet and a velocity of 100 feet per second. After how many seconds will it reach a height of 300 feet. • 300=-16t2 +96t+200. • When you put numbers into the equations the o’s are deleted. • The whole equation equals 300 because that is the height that we are trying to reach. • 100 is the velocity in which the ball was thrown so we replace the v with 96.
Examples • 200 is the starting point of the ball so we replace the s with 200. • Finally the answer to how many seconds it would take would be t= 1.34 and 4.65. • To get that answer you use the quadratic equation
