Also at break we get fresh milk from the office.
3. Healthy Bodies We are an Activemark school with a recognized commitment to a healthy life style
We do 2 one hour sessions of P.E. per week
This includes: dance and gymnastics indoors & football, cricket, hockey and tennis outdoors.
Our after school clubs include a range of activities for children to participate in.
With a pool onsite, we are able to enjoy swimming 4 times a week.
4. Lunches The tables in the hall are decorated with nice bright tablecloths in a café style
We can eat our lunch outside in the summer, where there are plenty of benches to sit on
Year 6 pupils have the privilege of using the courtyard
Lunch time awards are presented every Friday in our Celebration Assembly
An indoor lunch club is held daily in our scout hut
5. Pupil Mentors Selected children attend a regional Peer Mentoring conference every year
We are easy to spot on the playground with our brightly coloured vests.
We organise a variety of games at lunch time
We monitor our ‘Friendship Bench’ where children sit if they are lonely and need someone to play with.
6. School Council Elected by pupils; two from each year group
Councillors meet weekly to share ideas about….. Fundraising, playtime rules, school improvements and 40 voices project.
Councillors are also selected to show new parents and children around the school
7. Emotional Health & Well-being 2 Full time Learning & Behaviour Mentors are employed to support children with emotional literacy
Small group work is held weekly Focusing on:
Communication skills, social skills, self esteem & developing strategies for dealing with anger
Yoga & Massage programmes are offered to our pupils, giving them an insight into calming techniques
A Nurture Unit within the school offering additional support
8. Curriculum Dedicated Health Week – governed by requests from children through their school council
PSHE timetabled; using SEAL programme
Circle Time to discuss issues & problems
Food projects & work on healthy eating
We are a Trailblazer school; with an emphasis on caring and learning about our environment
9. Top Tips Get your SLT on board and keep them updated (Minutes at meetings, School newsletter, Governors – introduce and raise profile)
Collect evidence before you start to show changes
Try to ‘dove-tail’ the work by using existing relationships ie: using links between the P.E. coordinator & the Sports Partnership to support Healthy Schools
Change doesn’t happen overnight, you are already doing many great things that you can build on and develop.
