  2. THE PURPOSE OF THIS EVENING IS … to find out ways you can support your child in achieving their academic goals and fulfil their potential.

IMPORTANT DATES • End of November 2013 Interim reports sent home • 27th November 2013 Parents’ evening • Early February 2014 (TBC) Reports sent home • 08th April 2014 Collaborative Parents’ Evening • 09th May 2014 Study leave/AS examinations begin • 09th June 2014 AS students return to start A2 courses

  4. PROGRESSION FROM BTEC & AS BTEC Pass = 2 GCSEs Merit = 4 GCSEs Distinction = 6 GCSEs—AS AS minimum 3 E grades = A2 Remember if applying to UCAS AS Grades will be on the application form

  5. PROGRESSION FROM AS TO A2 Minimum of 3 E grades Any U grades then you will not be able to progress with that subject You must study 3 subjects in Year 13 No re-sits available

  6. PROGRESSION FROM A2 TO UNIVERSITY Students begin the UCAS process in January/February with a UCAS day Continue research on return after AS exams Formal applications from September Early deadlines for specific courses and universities. Open days Importance of AS grades

  7. WORK EXPERIENCE > On return from AS examinations • 30 hours of work experience needed to pass WBQ • Essential for all vocational courses e.g. medicine, teaching, law, nursing > Careers Wales

  8. UNIFORM AND ATTENDANCE > Essential that all students are in correct school uniform > No trainers. Boys must wear a tie and all students must wear the school blazer > No vest tops, t-shirts or leggings for girls. > Students are in full time education > Holidays are recorded as unauthorised absences

  9. Intermediate Level – L2: • BTEC Business • Equivalent to 2 / 6 GCSE’s • Full time 1 year course • 4 Key Skills • Advanced Level – L3: • 3/4 AS subjects • 80-120 UCAS points • 2 year course • 6 Key Skills • Individual Investigation & Diary • Wales, Europe and the World & Language • Community Participation & PSE • Work Experience & Enterprise Mentoring / Pastoral Support
