  2. Hydrogen is a symmetric reagent

  3. Heat of Hydrogenation: The quantity of heat evolved when one mole of unsaturated compound is hydrogenated ( 30 K cal / double bond) • Heat of Hydrogenation and stability of alkenens

  4. Hydrogenation is carried out using a catalyst: • The catalyst lowers Ea by permitting the reaction to take place in a different mechanism. • The catalyst does not affect the net energy change of the overall reaction.
