  6. Vaccine Recommendations ACIP recommends vaccination for males aged 9-26. Gardasil protects males against HPV types 16 and18 (associated with anal, penile, and oropharangeal cancers) Gardasil protects against HPV types 6 and 11 (associated with genital warts). An Equal Opportunity University

  7. Vaccine Uptake and Intent Approximately 21% of boys aged 13-17 have received at least one dose. Only 2.1% of adult males aged 19-26 have received at least one dose. Intent to receive the vaccine is relatively high among adult males. An Equal Opportunity University

  8. Purpose and Methods Pilot investigation to determine what would motivate young men (including relationship status with a female) to receive dose one of the HPV vaccine. Inclusion criteria 18-26 year old males. Report a current relationship with a female enrolled in a previous study concerning HPV vaccination. 32 males enrolled, received dose one of the vaccine and completed a questionnaire assessing motivations for vaccination) An Equal Opportunity University

  11. Findings Most men were knowledgeable about HPV causing genital warts (90.6%) and cervical cancer (93.8%). HPV knowledge concerning genital warts was significantly correlated with motivation for vaccination (p=.04). Future research should focus on men’s aversion to genital warts.
