Introduction • What do you know about pneumatics? • How does air systems interact with electrical, cooling, humidity, vibration, and door closers?
Agenda • Areas Covered: • General Pneumatics • Pneumatics in Chambers • Cause for Pneumatics Failures • Extend Pneumatics Life
Vocabulary • Pneumatics, from the Greek πν(pneumatikos, coming from the wind) is the use of pressurized gases to do work in science and technology.1 • Solenoid valve is an electromechanicalvalve for use with liquid or gas controlled by running or stopping an electrical current through a solenoid, which is a coil of wire, thus changing the state of the valve.2 • Gas compressor is a mechanical device that increases the pressure of a gas by reducing its volume.3 • Pneumatic Actuator converts energy (in the form of compressed air, typically) into motion.4
Our Air System • Requirements • Clean minimum oil, rust, and dust • Dry -40 and lower dew point • 100 PSI • Large Air volumes at full on • One Medium Vibrator 5.2 SCFM • One Large Vibrator 12 SCFM
Air System Components Solenoid Valves Push Lock Fittings Barbed Parker Fittings I/P Valve
Air System Components Rubber Air Hose Hard 1/4 Air Line Medium Vibrator Oilier
Air System Components Shut Off Lockout Volume Booster
Causes of Air System Failures • Dirty Air • Compressor Oil • Moisture
Extending Air System Life • Key is good clean dry air • Checking components operation
Summary • Air system ties together vibration, cooling, and door operation. • As such it needs to be kept working to keep chamber running at full potential.
