WHAT IS ALUMINUM? • It’s a metal • Its Atomic number is 13 • Its accurate weight is 26.9815386 • Melting point is 660.323 degrees Celsius • Boiling point is 2519 degrees Celsius • Its mass is 2.70g/cm3
Aluminum • Its Solid at room temperature • Period number is 3 • Group number is 13
Aluminum • Aluminum is actually very soft and lightweight • Most aluminum found on earth are mostly a compound like potassium aluminum sulfate and aluminum oxide • 8.2% of the earth crust is composed of aluminum
Uses of aluminum • Aluminum foil • Also used for building airplanes • Street lighting pools • Aluminum is also 100% recyclable
Reactivity • Aluminum is a metal covered with a thin layer of oxide so it protects it from the air • When burning aluminum in oxygen it will produce a bright white flame which form the trioxide aluminum Al2O3 • Al also dissolve in dilute sulfuric acids
