John Mellencamp, Small Town • Who is the speaker? • Where in the world does this speaker live? • Brainstorm as MANY points as you can for this! • What is his or her role in society? • What is his or her lifestyle like? • Describe a typical day for this person. • What time period is this speaker from? • How does the speaker feel about where he or she is from? (How do you know?)
How would the speaker’s life change if he or she… • Was from a different country? • Lived during a different period in time? • Was from a different class in society? • Was singing about a big city? • Was signing about a farm?
It is girls who live in central America. They prepare themselves to celebrate their 15th birthday!! That is called the Quinceanera
These men are Arabic-Muslim. In their countries, holding hands is simply a sign of friendship, even between two men. It is not unusual to see that in these countries!

This man is a Maori (a native of New Zealand). Their ritual consists of a dance where the grimaces and the gestures are supposed to push back the enemy or the rival.
These are Inuit women practicing throat singing or katajjait. They place themselves opposite each other and reproduce sounds of the nature with the breath that passes through their throats. The first one that stops loses!

What is a worldview? • Flip through pages 3-13. • Using sticky notes, write or draw definitions for the following words: • Point of View • Perspective • Worldviews • For each of the above definitions, write or draw an example
What influences your worldview? • There are big flip chart pages placed around the room. • Each one represents a different element of what influences our worldviews. • We are going to walk around the room and brainstorm things that may influence the way you think and behave within each element. • If you are not sure what to write, just answer the question at the top of the page. • When we’re done we will take a look at what we wrote as a class.

When might you think and behave differently? • How do changes to any of the elements on the worldview icon influence how you think and behave?
My Worldview • Using the outline at the bottom of page 13, create a visual representation of your personal worldview. • Your visual representation should show specific ways that you are influenced by the different elements of a worldview. • It may be in the form of at: • Collage • Drawing • Cartoon
