WORKSHOP: –noun 1.a room, group of rooms, or building in which work, esp. mechanical work, is carried on. 2.a seminar, discussion group, or the like, that emphasizes exchange of ideas and the demonstration and application of techniques, skills, etc. Want to learn more about race and performance? • Look at contemporary playwrights in both South Africa and the United States and examine how artists use theatre to challenge notions of race and identity. • Theatre is action – theatre is a conduit for social change! • Read exciting plays and understand how they were presented in production • Seek to understand the intersections between race, gender, and performance • Go on fieldtrips to visit local black theatre companies • Understand histories of African American performance and performance in Africa • Create a performance for the World Theatre Festival at the Downtown Arts Center in April, 2011 TA 384/ AAS 384 MWF: 1:00-1:50pm Dr. Jennifer Goodlander For more info: Goodlander@uky.edu NO PERFORMANCE EXPERIENCE NECESARRY!
