  21. Consequences should be related to the undesirable behavior. • Consequences should be important to the child. • Consequences should be proportional to the undesirable behavior. • Consequences should be timely.

  23. 8. Why is time-out useful? Allows parent and child to calm down; motivates child not to repeat behavior; child learns self-control.

  24. For some children, time-outs may not work. Some refuse to sit still, while others simply don’t mind being set to time-out. For these children other types of consequences are more useful.
