Types of Standard British Standards. These cover products and methods and areissued by the British Standards Institute American Society for Testing and Materials. (ASTM) standards are the American equivalent of British Standards. DIN standards are the German ones. Standards for products throughout Europe are being replaced with European Standards (EN's) which are authorised by the European Community.
Agrément Certificates These are given by the British Board of Agrément or European equivalents for products for which there is no appropriate national standard. If a national standard is produced the agrément certificate is not renewed.
ISO standards ISO standards are issued by the International Standards Organisation (in New York) and are intended for use world-wide.

BS 5750 rules for quality assurance • The existence of a quality manager not involved with production or marketing. • A comprehensive system of procedures for every process involved (quality manual). • Detailed records of all inspections • Effective training arrangements for all personnel • A formal procedure for identifying and rectifying substandard goods or operations.
