  8. What does theatre involve? • Theatre involves some aspect of human behavior when the audience shares in the story and the occasion.

  11. the Theatron • The Greek word for theatre, meaning seeing place.

  12. How do you spell it. . . • Theatre? • Theater?

  13. ???? ER or RE ???? • Theater = the building that the performance is in or the American way to spell it. • Theatre is the art of or the European way to spell it.

  15. II. When does theatre happen?

  16. When two groups come together • When actor and audience come together at a certain time and a certain place. • This does not always have to happen on a stage.

  17. III. Different types of theaters

  18. Proscenium Stage • Proscenium stage or picture frame stage – audience seating is in front of the stage where the audience watches through the imaginary fourth wall. • This is the kind of theatre we have at IHS.

  19. Thrust Stage • Thrust Stage – the stage is pushed out into the audience. The audience seating will be on three sides. • Shakespeare's globe theater is a thrust.

  20. Arena Stage • The Arena Stage or theater in the round – theater in which the audience seats all around the stage. • Rock concerts, wrestling, football games, etc.

  21. Black Box Theater • The Black Box Theater – theater that is inside a large room which is painted black. The sets, stage, seats can be placed in any configuration desired by the director.
