  1. Wondering About Judgment? November 3, 2013 Bible Passages: - John 7:53-8:59

  2. BACKGROUND PASSAGE OVERVIEW FACING THE TRUE JUDGE (JOHN 7:53-8:20): Some Pharisees brought an adulterous woman to Jesus and asked His evaluation about her sin. He explained that if they were sinless they could stone her. They realized their predicament and departed. Jesus forgave the woman; then He challenged her to stop sinning. He also reminded the Pharisees that when He judges, His judgment is true. IDENTIFYING THE IMPORTANCE OF JUDGMENT (JOHN 8:21-29): Jesus warned that those who do not believe in Him will die in their sins. KNOWING THE BASIS OF JUDGMENT (JOHN 8:30-47): Jesus challenged those who believed they were free from the curse of sin because they were physical descendants of Abraham. Jesus warned that if they truly knew God they would believe in Him. Since they wanted to kill Jesus, they were the children of the Devil, the father of lies. RESPONDING TO THE TRUE JUDGE (JOHN 8:48-59): When Jesus’ hearers accused Him of being controlled by a demon, Jesus warned them that such actions proved they didn’t truly know God. Those who believe in Jesus and obey His Word will never taste spiritual death. When Jesus explained that Abraham was overjoyed to see His day, the hearers tried to stone Jesus, but He escaped.

  3. QUESTIONS TO CONSIDER How does the reality of Jesus’ being the light of the world comfort you? What is your response to Jesus’ strong words of warning about the consequences of unbelief? Should believers today share these warnings with unbelievers? If so, how? After studying these Bible passages, what is your response to the question “Should I welcome or fear God’s judgment? Why?” • WHAT NOW? MY MISSION • How will you put into action this week what you’ve learned from God’s Word about God’s judgment? • Grow in confidence about Jesus as the true Judge by conforming your life to His purpose. • Embrace the importance of Jesus’ judgment as authoritative because He was sent by God. • Recognize the basis of Jesus’ judgment because His sinless life qualifies Him to truthfully evaluate every person. • Repent of any prideful attitudes or any sinful resistance of your personal accountability before God.
