  3. The Rise of CIVILIZATIONS! CIVILIZATION: A group of people in a certain area that have a high level of cultural and technological development. Essential Questions: • Why did the first civilizations develop in the Fertile Crescent? • What major advances came out of Mesopotamian civilization? • How does Jewish history connect to the history of Mesopotamia?

  4. FARMING CHALLENGE REFLECTIONS • What do all the farming challenges have in common? • What did a farming community need to carry out their plan? • How did these communities change over time?

  5. WHERE DID THIS FARMER LIVE? I must protect against winter floods I live next to a river. I worry about the autumn winds. I must provide water for my crops during summer droughts. I hope that my wife can protect me from the enemy village!

  6. MY ACHIEVEMENTS Achievement: The act of reaching a goal, doing something special, or having a successful performance. Write down at least FIVE achievements that you have made in your life so far. They can be both big and small. If you could put these achievements in order, which would you put as number one, number two, ….? (Pair Share)

  8. Mesopotamian Achievements:Research wheel • Walk around the room and look at the different pictures related to Mesopotamian civilization. Draw a small picture or icon in the inside circle to represent each Mesopotamian achievement. • Work in groups of four to read about and note down the main points for each Mesopotamian achievement. • You have only 6 minutes with each handout. • You have limited space, so write small!
