On Tuesday, I sent mark-up of your 3 min ANL talks • I was very impressed by all the presentations at Argonne Good Job! • Just trying to indicate what I thought would be important to say in your poster and final report • Trying to foresee and have you prepared for questions at your poster session • Tried to give constructive suggestions, not criticism no “grade” attached! • I’m happy to discuss my suggestions with you or decipher my handwriting! Some Suggestions for Poster and Final Report Format • Title page or header: • Title of your project/presentation • Your name, home institution, Lee Teng Internship • Mentor’s Name, Division or Department • Date of poster presentation or report • Nice to add your institution’s logo (e.g. my MC) • Plots, figures, graphs, tables, and photos are fine, • Make sure they are big enuf to read • Axes labels, numbers, units (cm, seconds, volts, %, etc.) • Remember descriptive captions (stand alone) • Equations – big enuf to read, define the terms & acronyms • Appendices – for back up materials, raw data, etc., if needed • Final Report: each page should have page number LTI-2018 reports were 7-20 pages long – take what you need Peter H. Content – what your poster & report should say: Demonstrate that you understand what your project is all about • Title (snappy and interesting) • Author & Mentor (and affiliation) list – Lee Teng Internship • Abstract (stand alone summary – will persuade others to read) • Body should include (outline only for poster, can’t say much): • Introduction and Motivation • Why your project topic is important or interesting • How your project fits-into the bigger picture: apparatus, experiment, or accelerator • What problem(s) you are trying to solve or overcome • What is your particular contribution & what you learned • What is the outcome of this project/research • Acknowledgements (thank you) • References – see Phys Rev Style & Notation Guide (later) Peter H.
