Myth • Hercules was a child of a mortal woman and Zeus. Hera was jealous and sent two snakes to kill him at birth but he strangled them instantly. Hercules was a great hero and he had great strength and courage. He was also known for his fits of madness. One day he killed his first wife and children. As a punishment he had to do the 12 labors, a series of difficult tasks. After his death he was turned into a god by his spectacular achievement.

Myth • Zeus was in love with Semele a mortal, Semele was happy to know that she was a lover of a god but not which one. She asked him to show her his true form. Zeus was unhappy, knowing what would of happen. He appeared in his true form and she instantly burned to a crisp. Zeus manage to save Dionysus and stitch him on his thigh and when he was born it gave him immortality.

Summary ! • The beautiful daughter of Demeter and Zeus, Persephone is the focus of the story resulting in the division of the seasons, giving us a beautiful Spring and a horrible Winter. Hades did not impress the Persephone so he abducted her and took her to his underground kingdom. After much protest, Persephone came to love the cold blooded king of the underworld but her mother, Demeter, was very angry and sorrowful. She showed her anger by punishing the earth’s people with bitter cold and blustering winds. Unless Persephone was returned to her mother’s side, the earth would perish.
