  1. The 4 Acne Advice Treatments For Severe Acne Acne eruptions can either be mild or moderate. Consultation with a skin specialist is suggested for those with severe acne. A dermatologist may recommend the use of medications that have the following active ingredients: azelaic acid, benzoyl peroxide and adbalene. Topical or oral antibiotics may also be prescribed. Prescription acne medications are available in drugs, creams, lotions, astringents. Tetracycline and Erythromyocin are usually given by acne advice skin specialists for severe acne. Treatment for Severe Acne Topical antimicrobials minimize P. acnespopulations, an acne-causing bacteria. This includes erythromycin, clindamycin and sodium sulfacetamide. Topical retinoid, a derivative of Vitamin A, may also be prescribed. Adapalene, Tretinoin and Tazarotene are topical retinoids prescribed to treat severe acne in the U.S. Oral antibiotics are commonly prescribed for patients with severe and moderate acne. They minimize bacteria growth in clogged follicles. Treatment takes less than six months. It starts in high doses and reduces as acne subsides. Isotretinoin, a potent oral retinoid, is prescribed to treat severe cystic acne and severe acne that did not respond well to other treatments. Interlesional corticosteroid injection is used to treat an extremely swollen acne cyst with a tendency to break. A ruptured acne cyst leads to scarring. Diluted corticosteroid is injected into the swollen cyst to avoid scarring. It helps to liquefy the cyst, reduce the swelling and accelerate healing. Do not self-medicate if you have severe acne. It is better to visit your dermatologist to get a better acne advice.
