STP WELCOME TO THE STP GUIDE This APPLICANT GUIDE has been developed to assist applicants in applying for the STP youth funding. This will help you through the STP application and reporting process, with useful tips and resource information.
STP WHO CAN APPLY • First Nations communities, schools and organizations -joint proposals are encouragedwith evidence of community support. • Each First Nation community may submit only one application.
STP GRANT LIMIT • Maximum STP Grant: $5,000.
STP PROPOSAL CALL • The STP is applied by a PROPOSAL APPLICATION submission.
STP PROGRAM DESCRIPTION • The STP will promote science and technology as a career choice; and • Provide First Nations youth will first-hand experience in various science and technology disciplines. • This can include the enhancement of traditional knowledge
STP PROGRAM OBJECTIVES • Promote science and technology as an education and/or career choice; • Promote an interest in science and technology to encourage students to pursue science in school; • Support the development and enhancement of employability skills such as communication, problem-solving, and working with others;
STP PROGRAM OBJECTIVES • Expose youth to a variety of career options; • Promote the benefits of education as being key to labour market participation; and • Promote an understanding of traditional sciences and an interest in First Nations traditional technology.
STP ELIGIBLE PROGRAMS STP projects designed and operated by First Nations communities may be submitted. Eligible projects can include: • Locally or community developed programs that are open to First Nations students; or • Portions of tuition for existing programs.
STP PARTICIPANT ELIGIBILITY • First Nations youth ordinarily resident on-reserve or in recognized First Nations communities. • No age restriction.
STP ELIGIBLE PROPOSALS • Be in accordance with the program guidelines. • Outlines the activities that support any or all of the listed program objectives. • Provides an estimate of costs, including the share to be borne by partners. • Outlines the results to be achieved. • Be gender balanced as much as possible.
A thorough and clear demonstration of the planned program and activities. Clear relationship between the planned program and science and technology, and an emphasis on encouraging students to consider science in their educational and career planning. Evidence that the program supports the development and enhancement of employability skills. Exposes youth to a variety of career options. Promotes the benefits of education as being key to labour market participation. Encourages the enhancement of traditional knowledge (where applicable). Demonstrated support for the application and program (for example, through BCR’s letters of support, in-kind donations, and other funding subsidies. The applicants prior fulfillment of science and technology program reporting requirements. STP PROPOSAL CONTENT
STP FUNDING DISTRIBUTION Distribution of program criteria/guidelines: • Proposal applications received. • Review of proposal applications. • Notification to successful applicants. • Distribution of the funds as follows: - 75% upon signing CONTRIBUTION AGREEMENT - 25% upon receipt of a STP FINAL REPORT
STP APPLICATION REVIEW • Applications are reviewed within the eight (8) FNSA geographical regional structure. • Applications are rated by point system.
STP PROGRAM ELIGIBILITY • All First Nations communities, schools, Tribal Councils and organizations are welcome to apply for funding. • Applicants that have not previously received funding through the STP will be given extra consideration in the approval process.
STP PROPOSAL APPLICATION FORM Tips… Provide a clear description of the planned project & activities; demonstrate a relationship between the planned project and the guidelines. Submit a relatively short and straightforward proposal on the application form.
PROPOSAL APPLICATION FORM Tips… Describe your goals for the STP activities; Refer to the STP program objectives. Check to see that your project goals meet the requirements of the STP. Enter Employability Skills. Ie: communication, teamwork, punctuality, leadership, computer technology, and problem solving.

STP PROPOSAL APPLICATION FORM *Maximum Grant is $5,000. Tips… List other projected funding, including the Band if it’s planning to supplement the program. Itemize your projected expenditures. Ensure your budget balances: Total Revenue - Total Expenditures = 0
STP PROPOSAL APPLICATION FORM Tips… Eligible costs do not include salaries, infrastructure or equipment purchases. Insert projected number of youth participating and your projected start and end date of STP project.
STP FINAL REPORT FORM Tips… Provide a clear description of completed project activities.
STP FINAL REPORT FORM List your Employability Skills. Ie: communication, teamwork, punctuality, leadership, computer technology, and problem solving. Tips… Insert your actual project partners, their involvement and the number of organizational/partners.
STP FINAL REPORT FORM Tips… • Participant Success Story content: • The benefits of participating in the program. • Level of satisfaction with the program activities provided. • Was their awareness / appreciation of science & technology enhanced? • Do they have and understanding of science & technology as a career option? • What influence has the program had on them pursuing a career in science & technology?
STP FINAL REPORT FORM Total Participant = Total female participants + total male participants. Tips… Please ensure ALL sections are completed. Refer to your contribution agreement for amount approved. A + B = C

STP FINAL REPORT FORM Note: The FNESC fax machine is VERY busy on deadline dates. If you have Internet access, we suggest you e-mail or fax final reports, but it is your responsibility to ensure that the e-mail is received and/or fax transmitted properly. Please provide a paragraph of your project observations Ie: What worked, what didn’t, and why or why not? How could the STP be improved? Highlight successes and provide recommendations. Tips…
