  1. UIL Academic Competitions: Let Your Student SHINE! UIL is an extracurricular academic program that allows high achieving students to demonstrate their knowledge and skills in a competitive setting! Teams are available for students in grades 2-5.

  2. UIL Facts • WHAT: University Interscholastic League • WHO: Elementary students from NISD • WHERE: Thompson Elementary, Haslet (NISD). Students will take the bus to this location on the date of the competition. • WHEN: Competition dates are still being determined for the 2015-2016 school year. • HOW: - Students try out for a team - If selected for a team, attend after school practices/study at home - Attend and compete at the competition.

UIL Facts continued… • WHY: - UIL helps to prepare students for future academic excellence in middle school, high school, and beyond. - UIL competitions celebrate ACADEMIC excellence, and allow students to let their “smarts” shine!! - UIL is FUN. Studentsbuild a community of learners with others on their team. - Students feel honored to represent their school and pride in their success.

  4. Try Outs • Tryouts will take place this fall (date TBD). • Students will stay after school and must have a SIGNED PERMISSION FORM to try out. • Students may try out for as many teams as they would like. • UIL coaches will meet and create teams. • Results of try outs will be announced at school by the following week (it takes several days to form teams).

  5. UIL Coaches • Teachers from various grade levels may be UIL coaches. • Your child’s coach may be a teacher from a different grade level. • I am still working on finalizing coaches for the 2015-2016 school year.

  6. Teams- 2nd Grade • Creative Writing • Storytelling *Students may only participate on one team*

  7. Teams- 3rd Grade • Storytelling • Oral Reading • Ready Writing • Music Memory • Spelling *Students may only participate on one team*

  8. Teams- 4th Grade • Music Memory • Art • Oral Reading • Spelling • Number Sense • Maps, Graphs, and Charts • Chess Puzzle • Ready Writing *Students may only participate on one team*

  9. Teams- 5th Grade • Music Memory • Art • Oral Reading • Spelling • Number Sense • Maps, Graphs, and Charts • Chess Puzzle • Listening • Dictionary • Ready Writing *Students may only participate on one team*
