Compound prepositions consist of two or more prepositions. • The bus is late according to them. • On account of rain, the game is canceled. • Wayne sat next to Karen.
Prepositional Phrases • A prepositional phrase begins with a preposition and ends with a noun or pronoun which is the prepositions object. Modifiers, if present, are found between the preposition and its object.
Examples • The small terrier nestled besidethe large, blacklab. • She left withus. • Transportation will be by passengertrain.
Underline the preposition and circle its object. • Boris arrived ahead of the others. • Quantum Physics is beyond my understanding. • The banshee lurked outside of the door. • The dogs played for two hours. • It is hard to get up early in the morning.
