Preposition. A preposition relates the object of the preposition which is the noun or pronoun following it to another word in the sentence. Examples. The package under the tree is mine. The package behind the tree is mine The package in front of the tree is mine.

  1. Preposition • A preposition relates the object of the preposition which is the noun or pronoun following it to another word in the sentence.

  2. Examples • The packageunder the tree is mine. • The packagebehind the tree is mine • The packagein front of the tree is mine.

  3. Compound prepositions consist of two or more prepositions. • The bus is late according to them. • On account of rain, the game is canceled. • Wayne sat next to Karen.

  4. Prepositional Phrases • A prepositional phrase begins with a preposition and ends with a noun or pronoun which is the prepositions object. Modifiers, if present, are found between the preposition and its object.

  5. Examples • The small terrier nestled besidethe large, blacklab. • She left withus. • Transportation will be by passengertrain.

  6. Underline the preposition and circle its object. • Boris arrived ahead of the others. • Quantum Physics is beyond my understanding. • The banshee lurked outside of the door. • The dogs played for two hours. • It is hard to get up early in the morning.
