Like sheep without a shepherd? 16th. Sunday Ordinary Time July 20, 2003
First Reading I will gather the remnant of my flock Jer 23:1-6
Thus says the Lord: Woe to the shepherds who mislead and scatter MY FLOCK!
Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel,to the Shepherds : You have scattered my sheep and driven them away. You have not cared for them! I will take care of you...
I myself will gather the remnant of my flock and bring them back that they increase and multiply
I will appoint shepherds to shepherd them. They will no longer fear and tremble, and none shall be missing.
Thus says the Lord: I will raise up a righteous shot to David. He shall reign and govern wisely.
In his days Judah shall be saved. Israel shall dwell in security. This is the name they give him:
The LORD OUR-JUSTICE
The Lord is my Shepherd there is nothing I shall want
Second Reading UNITED IN ONE BODY Ef 2:13-18
NOW! You are near by the blood of Christ, you who once were far off
He is our PERACE He made both people one braking the wall: HATRED
abolishing the law with its commandments and legal claims that he might create in himself ONE NEW PERSON
He reconcilied with God the two people in one BODY "through the cross"
Abolishing hatred he brought the good news of PEACE
PEACE TO YOU who were far off! who were near!
We now have access to the FATHER in one SPIRIT
Third Reading Moved with pity... like sheep without a shepherd Mk 6:30-34
The apostles gathered together with Jesus
and reported all they had done and taught
Come away by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while
People were so many they had no opoortunity even to eat
They went off in the boat to a deserted place
People hastened there on foot from all the towns and arrived at the place before them
When he disembarked Jesus saw a VAST CROWD and he had pity on them, they were like sheep without a shepherd!
and he began to teach them many things
