What?! I Can’t Just Take the Test?? Kaci Pratt Maria QuilpasEvengalina Gonzales Alicia Arnold
No, you can’t! • There’s a process you have to complete before you can take your tests. Never fear! We will walk you through the steps that you need to go take.
Step 1: View TExES Academy • During your first education program classes, you will automatically be enrolled in the TExES Academy. Completing this is a requirement and is also a great preparation tool. It has many resources to help you be successful.
Step 2: TEA ID • The School of Education makes a TEAL account for you on the TEA website, so you already have a TEA ID number. • If you change any of your personal information after the school creates your TEAL account, you must contact TEA to change it. You cannot test if your Texas ID and TEA information do not match. • https://secure.sbec.state.tx.us/SBECOnline/login.asp
Step 3: Complete T-Cert • T-Cert is an online training created by Texas A&M to help future educators prepare for certification tests. It is required that you complete this training and submit the certificate of completion before you can be approved to take a practice exam. • The PPR, EC-6 Generalist, and 4-8 Generalist each have their own T-Cert that you must complete. • You simply go to the website, create an account with your TEA ID number, and select which test you are preparing for. • https://pact.tarleton.edu/TCERT/
Step 4: Take the Practice! (It’s Free!) • You can now register to take a practice exam. You can do this at http://www.registerblast.com/uhv/exam . Any calendar dates that are not shaded you can click on for available test times on that day. Then you just enter in your information and wait for the confirmation email. • Study hard! Use the TExES Academy and T-Cert to study leading up to your practice exam. You must pass the PPR with 80% and the Generalist with 75% to qualify to take the official exams.
What If I Fail the Practice? • Try again! STUDY STUDYSTUDY! Think about what you were unsure about on the test and go back to those things. Re-evaluate how you are studying! Make a plan for studying and stick to it.
Step 5: Complete the TExES Approval Form and Submit • Once you have received an email in the TExES Academy that you have been approved to take the real test, you must fill out the TExES Approval form and send it to EduCertAnalyst@uhv.edu. Once it is processed, you will receive an email with a link to register for your real test.
Step 6: Take the Official • Once you have registered, keep studying and take your official test. • If you pass, you will be eligible to start the process to take the practice Generalist. • If you fail, YOU MUST WAIT 45 DAYS BEFORE YOU CAN TAKE IT AGAIN!! You will be required to complete an individualized tutorial from the TExES Academy director.
Step 7: Take the Generalist • The process to take the official Generalist is the same as the one to take the PPR. You need to complete T-Cert, submit the form, take the practice, and pass with at least 75%. • As with the PPR, if you fail YOU MUST WAIT 45 DAYS TO TAKE IT AGAIN!! You will be required to complete an individualized tutorial from the TExES Academy director.
Take the Generalist Continued… • You can use books from your previous classes to study for the Generalist. Books specifically from: • LITY • Physical Science • Math • Core classes (History, Texas History, Government, Biology, Chemistry, etc.) • You can also use certification level textbooks that are actually being used in the schools.
Congratulations! • You passed your tests!! Now you can relax.
