  3. What is SOKRATES? • European Union programme of action for the advancement of transnational cooperation in the area of education • Superordinate acronym for various activities

What is SOKRATES? • Activities (amongst others) • ERASMUS: Improvement of higher education • GRUNDVIG: Improvement of adult education / lifelong learning • LINGUA: Improvement of language teaching • MINERVA: Promotion of open lessons, distance learning and ICT • COMENIUS: Improvement of school education

  5. What is SOKRATES? • COMENIUS 1:Advancement of transnational partnerships between schools • COMENIUS 2:Training and further education of school personnel • COMENIUS 2.1:European Cooperation project • COMENIUS 2.2:Individual scholarships • COMENIUS 3:Networks (min. 6 countries)

The idea behind the project • 1st Phase: Development of teaching “materials” • According to agreed quality criteria • In tandems between teachers/teacher trainees • Translation of material into the languages of the 3 other countries • 2.Phase: Modification, trial und further development of material • Adaptation of country specific characteristics • Expansion of the methodological applications • Collection of teaching documentation

  8. What does quality mean for us? • Every day mathematics • Learn something about other country, as well as own country • Odd and questionable things (e.g. from the newspaper) • Something useful for own life (e.g. smoking, traffic safety) • Environmental awareness (e.g. water consumption)
