I left my backpack in the woods.” Their happy mood fades quickly, and Jack sullenly says, “I’ll go grab it, and I’ll meet you back here.” • “I don’t give a shit what your mom said, Teddy. We are going pumpkin smashing.” • I try to call out for help, forgetting my lips are sewn shut. A rush of pain shoots through my lips, and I claw at them crazily.
