  1. 4 Tips for Grant Writing to Increase Success

  2. A grant is an amount of money given (or granted) by a government or any other organization for a specific purpose. Grants are funds given by “grant makers” to a recipient. • Grant makers may often include a government department, trust, foundation, corporation or an individual. A recipient may include a business, nonprofit entity, educational institution, or an individual. In order to receive a grant, some form of “Grant Writing” is required. • This grant writing is often referred to as either a proposal or an application.

  3. A grant proposal requests funding for the recipient to support activities that are consistent with the mission of the grant maker. • A lot of grant writers think it is an easy task to write grants when in reality grant-writing is a delicate and perfect mix of art and science. • It is important to follow these tips while writing grants.

  4. Have a project: The first and the most important thing is to have a project in mind. A lot of people come across a grant and then start looking for projects to fit into it. Rather it is advisable to first have a project and then look for grants that could fund your project. It will be a lot easier to write a proper grant when you have a clear idea and plan in your mind. Keep you background work ready: Do not wait till you are actually filling a form for grant application. Solidify the details of your project and keep them ready in written; ready to be submitted along with the application form of the grant. Keep all the data related to your project ready using test results, demographics and anecdotal evidence.

  5. Looking for a grant: Look and search for grants that conform to your project and mission. Stay away from grants that are not in accordance with your mission. Do not go on applying to any and every grant you come across. It is highly important to find a potential grant that will be interested in your mission and will want to fund you. Applying to appropriate grant makers is critical. Do some research before selecting the grant to be applied for: This will help you know the audience for your grant. This in turn will help you refine your language accordingly. Do some research about the organization and their area of working. It is also helpful to find a special point of contact, a person in the organization that can help you with this research.
