Location? Any where located near a hospital. Larger cities offer more employment and a wider range of fields for surgeons. Smaller towns have smaller hospitals and don’t need surgeons that practice specific fields such as a surgeon who specializes in ear surgery.
Math Needed Surgeons use math everyday in their profession. They use geometry to determine how big they need to make the cut in the patient. They also use math to calculate the amount of medicine the patient needs based on their body weight. Surgeons need to be able to read, write, and interpret charts and graphs. Lastly, they use math skills to handle their personal finances and for billing insurance companies correctly.
More Information: Today, the graduates getting hired the most are those with a degree in health care. One down side though is that surgeons work long, irregular hours. Also, acceptance to medical school is highly competitive. But once you have paid off your college debt, the salary is quite rewarding.
