A GREEN NEW DEAL FOR ITALY

States General of the Green Economy Promoted by the National Council for Green Economy, made up of 66 business organisationsthatrepresent the green economy in Italy, in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Economic Development.   States General is a multi-stakeholdersprocess, connectingGovernment-Industry-Civil society, to promote a new trend in the Italian economy towards a green economy, opening new opportunities of lasting and sustainabledevelopment and to lead the way out of the currenteconomic and climaticcrisisthrough the establishment of a developmentprogramme for the growth of a green economy in Italy. They are an initiativeintegratedinto the EuropeanUnion’sendeavour to accomplish the work undertakenat the Rio+20 Conference.

  3. Consultationmethod The platform of policy recommendations and normative proposalsiselaboratedthrough a bottom-up approachwhichencourages the widerparticipation of allrelevantstakeholders. The National Councilestablished10 Workinggroupsconsisting of representatives from organisationsthatrepresent green economy businesses, individual companies, representativesfrom civil society and of experts from the field. 10 ThematicNational Assemblieswereheldbetween2012 and 2013, onefor each policy area in order to start the broader public consultation on the documentsinstructed by the WorkingGroupsthat go to build the roadmap for the green economy in Italy.

RESULTS The National Council of the Green Economy released the followingdocuments for the States General 2013: Presented in Rimini: • Package of Measures for a Green New Deal in Italy • The Roadmapfor a Green Economy Published on the website www.statigenerali.org: • Priorities in 10 strategicsectors for a green economy in Italy • The full list of proposedregulatorymeasures Furthermore, Workinggroupsproducedspecificsectoralanalysisthrough a bottom-up participatedmethod of consultation made in the groups and through public events. Documents are downloadable on the section “Documents” of the website.
