Brief History of Kentucky’s Wine Industry: Swiss vinedresser/winemaker, John James Dufour explores US to find suitable location for wine production. After a number of years, finds what he believes to be a perfect location on the banks of the KY River in present-day Jessamine County with southern exposure and directly across from Quantico (popular shipping port in late 1700 and early 1800s) 1798: Dufour secures investors including Henry Clay, Daniel Boone, Patrick Henry and John Brown to establish the Kentucky Vineyard Society and plants First Vineyard First vintage tasted in 1803 at John Postlethwait’s Tavern in Lexington By 1870, Bracken County (N. KY) was the leading wine producing county of the US. Prohibition decimated the industry 1976: Legislation passed allowing wineries to operate. Tobacco Settlement funds allowed many KY farmers to explore alternative cash crops KY’s Wine Industry reemerges…quickly and slowly.

2017 Drink KY App The Kentucky Wine Trails App limited update options based on the platform capabilities. The KGWC worked with the KGB to develop a new app built on an advanced platform that would offer more user friendly features and the opportunity to incorporate regular updates/add on features. The KGWC worked with Red7E who has partnered with Lelander for 3 years on various web and application projects. Their proven collaboration and service is why Red7E elected to partner with Lelander. They have partnered with Red7E on various clients and digital projects for the Commonwealth (i.e.: KY wine), Hilliard Lyons, and KY Owl (Bourbon). Lelanderis a software development studio, located in St. Louis, MO., founded in 2010.
2017 Drink KY App Welcome to DrinKY – the new go-to app for fans of Kentucky wineries and craft breweries, courtesy of the Kentucky Grape and Wine Council and the Kentucky Guild of Brewers. DrinKY displays all Kentucky wineries and breweries in map or list view, plus a filtering capability that allows users to view the exact locations they want. When a winery or brewery is selected, DrinKY will instantly provide the address, directions, hours of operation and other pertinent information. Explore Kentucky wineries and craft breweries, chart trips with an interactive map and use a virtual passport to complete your own unique wine/beer trail. Log in via Facebook authentication – so no username and password to remember! With automatic passport location verification, you don’t need to enter winery or brewery code numbers, plus you’ll automatically be notified when you’re eligible for a prize!
