Early Days in P1 • First week in P1: 1st day of school - Tuesday 23rd August 2016: 9.10am – 12 o’clock - Children to enter via red door in back playground - You can bring your child into school on the first day Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of first week: 8.55am – 12 o’clock • First full day – Monday 29th August 2016 • Meet the Teacher evening – Wednesday 7th September 2016 at 6pm
School Hours • Soft start at 8.50am • School begins at 8.55am • Interval 10.30am • Lunchtime 12.10pm P2 – P3/2 – P4 – P5 • Lunchtime 12.30pm P1 – P2/1 – P3 – P6 – P7 • School ends 3.25pm
Morning routine • Children enter the school via the red doors • Children independently hang their coats up on their pegs which are clearly labelled • Children go into their classrooms • ‘Good morning’ and lunch order with class teacher • Bags unpacked, ready for BIG start • Snacks and pencil cases are kept in individual trays • Class teacher will provide a space for water bottles to be kept
Daily Jobs • Pencil case – writing pencils, eraser, sharpener, glue stick, and coloured pencils (please make sure these are sharpened regularly!) • Your child can bring a water bottle to school – please note that this is for water only (no juice) • Please make sure that the reading books are returned to school • Please check your child’s bag daily for letters and work that will be sent home when completed. • Further routines are outlined in the Top Tips for Parents leaflet.
Please label all items!All school jumpers/t-shirts/trousers/skirts etc. look the same!
Playground during interval and lunch • Please provide your child with a small snack – please bear in mind that some children might be allergic to nuts • Fun time • Support Staff on duty • Activities to play with in the playground • Friendship Stop • Peer Mediators on duty (P6 children)
Lunchtime • Packed lunches • School dinners • 3 trays: red, blue or green • Children order their dinner in the morning • You will receive a copy of the menu in your P1 pack – this is usually changed around April time
Wet Weather • Wellies and a change of footwear • On wet days pupils will be supervised in their class at interval and lunchtime if the weather is unsuitable for outdoor play e.g. risk assessed to be too icy or wet
Going Home Safely • Bus • Car • Foot • Bicycle
Don’t worry! • Tidying up at home and providing responsibility • Dressing him/her self • Label everything - 25 sweatshirts all look the same ! • Flush the toilet and wash hands- encourage at home • Talk to your child about what they have been learning at school

Milk • Ordered at the end of each term – you will get lots of notice from the school office on when this has to be paid by • Orders cannot be taken after this date – West Lothian Council Policy • Milk kept in fridges in P1/2 area • Children get milk at some point during the school day
