Keyword search software is often used in screening • Makes it as easy as possible for the hiring manager to say yes as they look at your resume! Think Like An Employer

OBJECTIVE STATEMENTS • • Clearly state what you want and what you can do • • Be concise • • Tailor the statement specifically to the position you are seeking • Example of a poorly written objective statement: • Challenging position where I can grow professionally and help others • Example of a targeted, well-written objective statement: • A position as a Clinical Coordinator in the Pediatric Special Care Unit at The George Washington University Hospital where I can use my extensive experience in pediatric intensive care to improve the quality of patient care Objective Statements

You Supported Customers/Clients/Patients: Because manning the phones or answering questions really means you’re advising customers and meeting their needs, use: Advised, Advocated, Arbitrated, Assessed, Assisted, Cared, Charted, Charged, Coached, Consoled, Counseled, Consulted, Educated, Evaluated, Fielded, Guided, Helped, Influenced, Informed, Resolved

  8. Details, Details, Details Start with your strong verb and then… What populations does the job focus on? Thinking about some of the patients or populations you have worked with and use those details! Did you work collaboratively on a team? Physicians, DNPs, volunteers, community members… What skills are most relevant to the position (what are they asking you for in the job description?) Technical skills, communication skills, collaboration, examples of leadership, examples of customer service…

Details, Details, Details • Situation-Action-Result is another way to help format your skills and accomplishment bullet points under your work experience section: • what you did, • why you did it, • and what happened as a result of your actions • “Delivered direct patient care to 12 patients while also managing the needs and questions of the patients’ families.” • “Worked with multidisciplinary clinical team to develop education and practical tool to improve correct screening for intimate partner violence on Labor and Delivery Unit. Tool recognized by top Hospital Administrators during monthly meeting.”

EPIC, EHRs (any special trainings/courses?), Microsoft office, any safety training that’s relevant, language skills Leadership, accolades, awards Have you done any volunteering or school activities that demonstrate leadership? Won any awards/scholarships? Professional affiliations or professional development Have you gone to any talks, workshops, or trainings that are relevant to this position (workshop on post-operative care)? Volunteering Have you worked in specific areas or with specific populations?
