Cantilevered slab considering deflection under load By changing the length of the balcony and the place where the force is applied, the deflection changes. Applying the same force, but changing the lever arm, the moment changes.
p= Analysis of pressure points (anchoring) At the same applied load when the surface is smaller, the pressure is bigger.
Balcony supported by diagonal cables The load does not travel straight down, but travels through the cables to the building and then to the foundation • Cables When no load is applied the cables are not in tension, but when a force starts to action the cables elongate and become tensioned so that they support the balcony and the deflection is smaller. 2. Pre-tensioned cables Less deflection than in previous case, because the tension force is larger.
Changing the anchoring point of the cable, the lever arm changes resulting in different deflections
