  3. World Eventscontinued on next slide • 1997: The Ohio Supreme Court, in the case of DeRolph v. State of Ohio, ruled that the state's system for funding public education was unconstitutional. / I’m not sure this event even made an impact of any kind on anything. • 1997-2003: The Cleveland Rockers was one of the original eight teams comprising the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). /It got me interested in basketball when I turned 9 and heard about it! • 2000-2001: The Columbus Blue Jackets are a National Hockey League (NHL) team located in Columbus, Ohio. The NHL awarded Columbus the team in 1997, and the Blue Jackets began play in the 2000-2001 Season, following the expansion of the NHL. / I don’t like hockey, I think it’s stupid so it doesn’t make any difference to me what happens to my surroundings with it! Unless my family decides to take me to a freaking hockey game. • 1998-2002: Al Lerner was a prominent Ohio real estate executive who was also majority owner of the Cleveland Browns from 1998 until 2002. /This made a difference/or impact because people who had him as their real estate person may have become fans of the Cleveland Browns because Al Lerner talking about them and encouraging the people to watch one of the games. A.K.A more fans! • 2001: Beginning in early April, several incidents of civil disorder took place in Cincinnati, Ohio. /Umm I’m not sure I know what “Civil Disorder” • September 11th,2001: Ohio Citizen Corps Following the terrorist attacks against the United States of America, President George W. Bush established the USA Freedom Corps. The Ohio Citizen Corps is a subsidiary of this organization. / This made a difference of some kind but I do not know how! • 2002-2005: The Cleveland Force was a professional indoor soccer team from Cleveland, Ohio. / I’m not sure an indoor soccer team could make a difference but they might have won a game! • 2002: Ohio's State Pledge In commemoration of the 100th anniversary of Ohio's flag, the General Assembly adopted a pledge to the flag. /This made an impact by possibly making the Ohio State flag a little more popular. • 2003: The Columbus Lady Shooting Stars was a women’s professional soccer team from Columbus, Ohio. The Shooting Stars formed in 2003. /Well they probably won some games! That made an impact on their lives! • 2003: Ohioan Ben Curtis won the British Open Golf Championship. /This made a, for him anyway, a huge impact on his life! • 2004: Chris Daugherty won the million dollar prize on the television show Survivor Vanuatu.(I LOVE his song "What About Now") /I think this is what made him famous, I’m not exactly sure though! 4. World Eventscontinued from last slide • April, 2006: Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, announced that computer records from the institution's training center for fledgling businesses had been stolen. /This made a huge impact because those computers, apparently, were real important. • April 6th,2005: Ohio University Die-in! Approximately twenty people, including students, held a "die-in" at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. This event was to protest the presence of United States soldiers in Iraq. / This made an impact because if they had not done it, then, people, if they did, wouldn’t have stopped to watch or maybe joined in or even raised an eye brow at they place they were doing it at! It made an impact on the peoples lives that saw it or did it with them! How? Because if they hadn’t done it, then, they wouldn’t have the memory of it! • Friday, March 7th & Saturday, March 8th, 2008: The Ohio Statewide Snowstorm was a record setting event that occurred on Friday, March 7, and Saturday, March 8, 2008. While this event has been called the Blizzard of 2008, technically the storm did not have sustained winds of at least thirty-five miles per hour, a requirement of a blizzard. /Well this made an impact by making it to where the younger ones couldn’t go out to play in the snow! • 2000: What has been called "Ohio's Most Unique Music Festival," occurs annually in Logan, Oio. The Washboard Music Festival has taken place every June on Father's Day weekend since 2000. /Well now, since 2000, there’s TWO big things on the weekend, Father’s Day and The Washboard Music Festival.
