  1. Xenu Link Sleuth Created for the 2010 IAGenWeb Coordinator’s Conference by Ralph Leonard III

  2. Why Use Xenu? • Quality control of your site – eliminate your broken links • Xenu is the fastest, most complete software of its type available • Xenu is free! • Download and FAQ’s link http://home.snafu.de/tilman/xenulink.html

  3. Presentation Objectives • To demonstrate the use of Xenu Link Sleuth to find broken links on a site. • To identify the types of broken links and how to find their location on a site. • To demonstrate how to repair broken links.

  4. Types of Broken Links • Graphics – A graphics link may be used for a background picture, page divider, or to show and/or link to a photo. • Navigational – A navigational link allows a researcher to move from page to page or within a page on your site, or to an off-site page, or to create a specific email. • Code – A code link exists only in the code, and although it has no effect on researcher experience, you may want to delete these from your site.

  5. Link Examples • View some graphics links on a page. • View some navigational links on a page. • Code links usually end in .mso or .xml. These are links that are created by Microsoft software and are basically an unnecessary annoyance. Deleting these should not affect your page.

  6. A Look Into Xenu • Settings • Check your site • Analyze the results

  7. The Final Step • Finding and fixing those broken links!

  8. Xenu Link Sleuth • This ends the presentation.
