IE/BIOE 553 Lab #3MEASURING AEROBIC CAPACITY AND PREDICTING ENERGY EXPENDITURE • Objectives • To estimate an individual's aerobic capacity based upon oxygen consumption and heart rates at submaximal work loads for a bicycling task • To validate Garg's metabolic model based on a lifting task • To validate heart rate as a valid means of estimating workload • To validate Borg’s subjective rating of perceived exertion as a valid means of estimating workload • Hypotheses • Results and Conclusions
Results Max VO2= 3.57 liter/min. Max E = 17.58 Kcal/min. VO2 = 0.0585*divisions on graph+.0978
Results Experimentally: Max VO2= 1.62 liter/min. Max E = 8.23 Kcal/min. Ereq to lift 10kg box=1.97Kcal/min. Ereq to lift 20kig box=5.9 Kcal/min. Using Garg’s Model: Energy is spent in standing, lifting, lowering and arm movement. Ereq to lift 10kg box=2.9Kcal/min. Ereq to lift 20kig box=9.5 Kcal/min.
