  1. The cappies gala 2019 Info for directors:  What it is, and what to expect and do

  2. The "Tony Awards" for high school students. • Monday, May 27th at 7pm in the Concert Hall of the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC. Black tie optional. • 3+ hours of awards, performances and lots and lots of excited screaming students • Attended by nominees, performers, cast/crew, parents • Parking garage charges $23 • Questions?   3. reminders for 2019 • Only credit cards will be accepted for cappies payments. Yup,  No cash or checks (exc E-Checks/ACH withdrawals).  • There will be 12 performance slots. They will go to nominees for play and musical; if some play/musical group drops out, there will be fewer performances. Music required at May 8 directors' meeting. • Names of commendees should besent to mary.nelson@cappies.com • Only paper tickets are acceptable for admission. No cell phone pix.

  4. tickets • $45 for anyone who ever sits in the house, incl. critics, nominees & performers (incl finale), Gala SINGERS & DANCERS • Director & Principal go free, as do "designated Helpers"  • Tickets purchased by schools only -- by CREDIT card --by TUES, 5/14. No individual sales. No cash. No checks anymore. • Request Ticket/Info Link at Tickets@Cappies.com ASAP • Use link form coming by april 28th for all orders!

  5. more ticket information • Submit ticket orders as you get them, until 5/14 @ 5pm deadline. Do NOT wait until you've got everyone. Please! • Only 4 in a group can use nominee-area tickets • Nominated Critics team can be up to 6 in nominee area; 9 medallions • You're guaranteed 40 tickets, can request to 100 • All performers are guaranteed tickets

  6. cautions • Start the process early! Partial orders put you on our radar screen. You can add seats until the 5/14 5pm ticket deadline. • Select ticket category with great care • Assure that ONLY nominees get procession area tickets.  avoid embarrassment at Gala • Missing the deadline means your seats will be scattered all over the Concert Hall • Missing the deadline could well mean that no seats remain (this really happens!) • NO individual tickets sold. One (CREDIT CARD!) TRANSACTION  per school, please. • Questions to Tickets@cappies.com

  7. medallions for nominees • Cappies provides up to 5 medallions for large groups (e.g. Orchestra), but you can order extra ones if you want to. The additional ones you must buy. • critics teams nominated get a full complement of medallions • Purchase additional medallions as you like, along with ticket order. $12.00 per medallion

  8. commendees • Directors may select up to 4 students -- not necessarily from your Cappies show -- to be recognized in the Cappies program. They will receive bronze medallions to wear at the Gala, at no charge. • PROVIDE THOSE NAMES to mary.nelson@cappies.org

  9. ticket pickup • May 21,22,23 from 3:00-5:30pm at the gatehouse administrative center, 8115 Gatehouse rd, falls church, va • ALL PURCHASES MUST BE BY CREDIT CARD ONLY! No checks! • Only adults may bring payment/get tickets/medallions • Minimize errors: send the person who best knows the nominees vs others, along with your own order list • Leftover/returned tickets will NOT be on sale during the GALA Rehearsal AT HAYFIELD high school. They will be returned to the Kennedy center for sunday Box office purchase. • Publicize a clear plan for how students and others get their tickets from you.

Nominees • FROM THE CRITICS CHOICES: "These names will be the names on the ballot from which the top five nominees will be selected in each category" BY THE CAPPIES CRITICS On Voting Day, May 5th (& prev). (six for "Play" and "Musical") • Nominee Photo Shoots on days posted on www.Cappies.com/NCA • Nominees seats are all together, need special "procession" tickets • Nominees get medallions, too (max 5/category unless you buy 'em) • Nominee Procession rehearsal on may 27 at 4:00pm required

  11. DESIGNATED helpers at the gala • CAPPIES SINGERS/DANCERS, WHO DO OPENING/CLOSING NUMBERS,WILLNEED TO BUY TICKETS. YOU WILL BE SEATED TOGETHER IN THE CONCERT HALL. GALA SINGERS, DANCERS OR ORCHESTRA REGISTER WITH THEIR GALA LEADER (emieiting/andrea cook/jimcriswell) AS IF THAT GROUP WAS THEIR BASE SCHOOL. BUY YOUR 1 ADD'L TKT THIS WAY, TOO. • FINale performers need to purchase regular tickets. They will sit with their schools. • "Gala Helpers" MAY not have to purchase a gala ticket but do need a backstage pass, to be arranged by cappies, not via their base school. • "GIGs and BITS" escort presenters to the stage and back. AUDITIONS info under "gala" tab • CAPPIES ORCHESTRA PLAYS ALL MUSIC. • CAPPIES GALA STAFF WORK BACKSTAGE BY INVITATION OF GALA DIRECTOR

  12. DESIGNATED HelpeRS • GIGs are Girls in Gowns  • BITs are Boys in Tuxedos • AUDITIONS FOR GIG/BIT ARE WED., MAY 15 AT oakton high SCHOOL AT 7:00P. Enter via door 5 or 6. • No ticket needed but will be registered for a backstage pass! • Who can be a Cappies Singer/dancer/musician is explained w audition info ELSEWHERE ON CAPPIES/NCA GALA PAGE • WANT TO BE (AN ADULT) HELPER FOR THE GALA? Performing schools • Nominees for Play or Musical may perform 3 minute cutting at gala. 3:01 is too long. • DIRECTORS' MEETING 5/8/15 7:30PM AT hayfield secondary SCHOOL • Rehearsal required: Sat. 5/26 @ Hayfield  and Gala day 10am onward @ kennedy center • Finale performers also rehearse 5/26 & 5/27

  14. winners • Winners go on stage for award and BRIEF thank you, then backstage for photo op. • Trophies go to school or winner as you choose • Additional trophies (if you want each winner in a group to have one) may be purchased at a later date (CREDIT CARD ONLY). • ** Rushing the stage (more than 4) will disqualify the school from performing despite nomination the following year
