Competencies: • chooses appropriate quantitative research design - CS_RS12-IIa-c-1 • Perform the write up on: Design, environment and respondents - addendum
Activity (15 mins) • Describe each design and when to use it? • Descriptive Design • Comparative • Evaluative • Correlational • Methodological • Ex-post facto • Experimental • Action Research • Developmental
I. DESCRIPTIVE METHOD “FACT-FINDING RESEARCH” which describes and interprets “WHAT IS?” It reveals condition on relationship and can be presented either quantitative or qualitative way depending on the nature of materials. Purpose: To describe systematically the facts and characteristics of a given population or area of interest, factually and accurately
Characteristics: • Used in the literal sense of describing situations or events, it is the accumulation of a database that is solely descriptive but may also aim for more powerful purposes like” • seek or explain relationship • test hypothesis • make predictions • get at meanings and implications

6. Action Research – purpose: to develop new skills or approaches and to solve problems with direct application to the class room or workplace. Examples: To develop an in-service training program to help train peer counselors to work more effectively with children with family problems. To develop an enrichment program for scholars honor students To test a fresh approach in the teaching of a particular discipline like the constructive approach of collaborative learning and use of personal reflections.
8. Developmental Research – purpose: is to investigate patterns and sequences of growth and or changes as a function of time. Examples: Longitudinal growth studies directly measure the nature and rate of changes in a sample of the same children or individuals at different stages of development. Cross sectional growth studies indirectly measure the nature and rate of the same changes by drawing samples of different children from representative age levels. Trend studies are designed to establish patterns of change in the past in order to predict future patterns or condition.
Examples1. Analysis of pre-natal, neo-natal and post natal behavior of mothers2. Proving the Psychoanalysis theory of Freud in early adult years (5 years) of female SHS students
II. EXPERIMENTAL RESEARCH • Most accurate research. • The description of “What Will Be?” or what will occur, under carefully controlled conditions. • Termed as method of difference – in process of condition, one is manipulated and one is controlled. • Leads itself to easier manipulation because of quantitative entities. • Observations are done under controlled conditions. • .

THE PROBLEM Statement of the Problem This study will determine the profile, performance, Organizational Citizenship Behaviour, Workplace Spirituality and performance of teachers in Dauin District, Division of Negros Oriental. Based on the findings of the study, a development plan will be proposed. Specifically, this study will seek to answer the following queries: 1. What is the level of Organizational Citizenship Behavior (OCB) among the teachers in terms of: 1.1 Altruism; 1.2 Courtesy; 1.3 Sportsmanship; 1.4 Conscientiousness; and 1.5 Civic Virtue? 2. What is the level of Workplace Spirituality in terms of: 2.1 Organization; 2.2 Spirituality; 2.3 People; 2.4 Service; 2.5 Organizational Self-Awareness; 2.6 Wisdom; and 2.7 Leadership? 3. What is the performance of teachers based on PAST evaluation with reference to: 3.1 Instructional Competence; 3.2 Personal and Professional Characteristics 3.3 Punctuality and Attendance
4. Is there a significant relationship between the performance of teachers and their: 4.1 Organizational Citizenship Behavior 4.2 Workplace Spirituality? 5. How do the respondents perceive the organizational culture shared by the personnel in their respective schools? 6. What development plan can be proposed based on the findings of the study?
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY Research Design This study will utilize the quantitative and qualitative methods of research employing the descriptive (correlational) approach. The profile of the college professors as well as their levels of performance, organizational citizenship behaviour, workplace spirituality, organizational cynicism, and work locus of control will be quantified and described. Further, the relationship and difference between the variables will be statistically established. A qualitative data on the perceived organizational culture shared by the respondents. The level of performance of the college professors will be a secondary data. This will be determined by the recent results of the performance evaluation of the college professors using the appraisal tool that the research locale is using.
Research Environment This study will be conducted at Dauin District Division of Negros Oriental. Dauin is approximately located 20km from the heart of negros oriental. It has an estimate of 5000 population. Rice farming is the main livelihood of the people. Dauin District is composed of 5 public schools which will be the main locale of the study. The schools are: Tuba Tuba Elem School located in Santa catalina avenue. It ahs 3000 student population with 29 teachers. It has 3 main buildings with laboratories in science and TLE. Manuyod Elementary School… Figure 1 is the map of Dauin.
Research Respondents The study will employ the universal method in getting the teachers employed in 5 schools of Dauin District. A total of eighty-three (83) teachers will serve as the respondents of this study. The identified 83 are all full-time employees. Part-time professors will be excluded as their lack of contact with the institution and its members might affect the data to be gathered.
