In 1729, Swift wrote A Modest Proposal, an essay which suggested that the poor in Ireland should sell their children as food to the wealthy. This essay
was a satire of British policies, and it has since become one of Swift's most famous works. Swift also wrote a number of other works, including A Tale of a Tub, which is a satirical work that examines the failings of the Church of England. He also wrote many poems, including “A Satirical Elegy on the Death of a Late Famous General” and “The Lady’s Dressing Room”.
