TeamHope • is an Irish, Christian development aid charity • When Team Hope started delivering shoeboxes to needy children in Eastern Europe and Africa, they realized that those children had a lot of problems. • Some had no food • Some couldn’t go to school • Some didn’t even have clean water to drink • So Team Hope now work to support communities • in all of these ways and more!

  2. Christmas Shoebox Appeal Last year 264,636 children received a gift-filled shoebox from Ireland For many of them it was the only Christmas present they received! All of these shoeboxes would completely cover 2 full sized football pitches!

  3. Where did the boxes go? Africa Eastern Europe Albania Belarus Kosova Latvia Romania Transnistria Ukraine Burundi D.R. Congo Kenya Lesotho Malawi Swaziland

  4. What do we do then… “We live in a world in which we need to share responsibility. It's easy to say "It's not my child, not my community, not my world, not my problem." Then there are those who see the need and respond. I consider those people my heroes.” -Fred Rodgers

  5. Team Hope in Action • Through our Christmas Shoebox Appeal we recognised many struggles faced by the communities we visited. With this knowledge, we have been able to work with our partners to help in the most needed ways in each country.

  6. Team Hope’s other projects • · Supply clean water • · Provide healthcare • · Care for those with HIV/AIDS • · Provide education • · Helping trafficking victims • · Generate income for those living in poverty • · Look after widows and orphans • · Help communities in need

  7. Martha in Malawi Martha is 7 and her favourite Christmas Shoebox gifts were the toys, scarf and gloves. In winter many children in Martha’s area are ill because it is so cold and they have no warm clothes to wear. Martha was delighted to be able to wrap up warm!

  8. Pantik in Belarus Pantik in Belarus received this gorgeous shoebox from a family in Ireland!He is mostly cared for by his granny and they don’t have a lot of money. When he opened the shoebox, he was delighted to find a picture of the Irish family who sent him his gift on the back cover!

  9. What can I put in my box? • WRITE some things to write with • WASH some thingsto wash with • WEAR some things to wear • WOW! Some things to go ‘wow’ at ! Don’t forget the €4 to help us to get the box there!

  10. What can I put in my box? • Write Items for school – Pen pencil, sharpener, eraser, copy book, paper, colouring book, felt pens, solar calculator

  11. What can I put in my box? • Wash Some things to wash with – toothbrush, toothpaste, facecloth, comb, soap (wrapped), hairbrush

  12. What can I put in my box? • Wear Some things to wear – hat, gloves, scarf, mittens, flip flops underwear socks

  15. WhatNOTto put in my box? Food (Apart from sweets) Medicine Scary things (like Halloween) War related items Large clothing items (take up too much space) Liquids (bubbles, shampoo…because they can spill/ be consumed) Anything breakable Sharp items Books with words

  16. See the children! Last year 264,636 children received a shoebox from Ireland. Here are just a few!

  17. Owen in Romania Owen is 12 and left school work and help his family to make money to but school supplies for his 5 siblings to go to school. They never could have imagined all receiving a Christmas present! The gifts brought them so much joy and hope, as well as copy books and pens so the children can go to school! Their mother was so happy to see her children smiling!

  18. Your Shoebox Your shoebox gift will be given into the hands of a needy child, irrespective of their race, religion, ethnicity or background.
