  2. Teachers Mrs. Zinniger and Ms. Desfor

  3. Pathway to Growth in Learning

  4. Five Main Standards Statistics and Probability (SP)~6th grade Number Systems (NS)~6th Geometry (G)~6th grade Ratios and Proportional Relationships (RP)~6th grade Expressions and Equations (EE)~6th grade

  5. 6th Grade Essential Standards 6NS2~I can divide a whole number by a whole number. 6NS3~I can fluently add, subtract, multiply, and divide decimals. 6NS8~ I can graph on a coordinate plane. 6NS1~I can divide fractions. 6RP2~ I can understand the concept of unit rate and use rate language. 6EE1~ I evaluate expressions using whole number exponents. 6EE3~ I can apply the properties of operations to generate equivalent expressions 6EE7~ I can write and solve one step equations.

  6. Google Classroom In their google classroom math folder they will see what we did in class that day, homework (videos to preview before the lesson), answer keys, and additional resources. Any announcements will also be in their google classroom. (Any upcoming quick checks or tests)

  7. Math Notebook 8 ½ by 11 Spiral notebook (at least 100 pages) We will be taking notes in our spiral notebook. We take notes or do activities in our notebook daily. Notes, quizzes and foldables will all be glued into the notebook. They should use this notebook to study for an assessment or to help them with their homework. We will have our learning targets for each unit glued in as well as an error analysis.

  8. Learning Targets • Each chapter will address multiple learning targets based on the common core standards. • Students and teachers will use these learning targets to assess their learning. • The students will record their level of understanding on that lesson.

  9. Levels of Understanding

  10. Quick Checks/ Error Analysis • After each lesson, students will have an opportunity to reflect on their understanding of the learning targets. • Students who are not scoring at a 4 level will have several opportunities to review the material and get extra help through tutorial and by using the online resources and the personal math trainer, which provides examples and step by step guidance. • After each quick check they will fill out an error analysis in their spiral notebook.

  11. Quick Checks can be used as a study guide for the test. These will be keep in their spiral notebooks.

  12. Quick check grades are entered into the portal by learning target abbreviation. The grade is later replaced by the final test score.

  13. Action Plan • Students are to create an action plan to prepare for a test and understand the learning target better or to maintain their understanding. (this is in their spiral notebook) • Resources they can use: Tenmarks, Red Math Book, Task Cards, videos, myhrw.com (online textbook), Khan Academy, IXL, LearnZillion.com, “I Can” cards, tutorial, and extra practice pages on the action log wall.

  14. Investigation(IBE)/Notes/Practice For each learning target, there is always an assignment that involves investigation/notes/practice that the entire class completes. Most of it will be done in class. If it is not finished in class, it will become homework for that night. After the assignment is completed, it is to be corrected from the answer key provided in the google classroom and they are to self assess on their learning target sheet before it is turned in. ***Please have your child check their google classroom daily to check what is homework.*** I will send out invitations for guardian summaries for the google classroom. This sends you an e-mail daily or weekly about what is posted in each of your child’s google classrooms.

  15. After practicing the learning targets that they need to, students show growth in their understanding through their unit test. Quick Check grades are then replaced in the parent portal. Students see their progress which in turn causes further motivation to learn

  16. 90% of the grade comes from assessments of the learning targets. These are graded using the rubric. 10% of the grade is from assignments (investigations, practice, notes). These are graded on completion of the assignment and are usually between 5 and 20 points each.

  17. Tutorial • How it works: -Teachers will stamp the students agenda with“ Tutorial Required” if he/she is needed to go to Tutorial. -Any student who does not have a “Tutorial Required” stamp can go to an “Open Tutorial” session. Open Tutorial: Students are free to come for any reason. They should use the time to work with a teacher or independently on homework. • Closed Tutorial: A tutorial is closed by a teacher if they are only allowing students with a stamp to attend or other prior arrangement have been made between teacher and student.

  18. Guardian Summary You should have been invited by your child’s advisement teacher. What is a guardian summary? Keep track of your child’s classroom progress through guardian email summaries. You can choose the frequency of the emails—daily or weekly—and you can unsubscribe or remove yourself from Classroom at any time. Guardian email summaries include: Missing work— Work that’s late at the time the email was sent Upcoming work— Work that’s due today and tomorrow (for daily emails) or work that’s due in the upcoming week (for weekly emails) Class activity— Announcements, assignments, and questions recently posted by teachers As a guardian, before you can receive email summaries, you must receive and accept an invitation from your student’s teacher or school.
