  4. It is centrally located in the Mediterranean region. The Alps and the Mediterranean Sea provide protection. What do you notice about the location of Rome?

  5. How will the location of Rome effect its political economic and social development? Talk to your neighbor

Political • Alps to the north provided protection from invasion • Mediterranean Sea and Rome’s inland location • on the Tiber River protected Rome from invasion • Economic • Central location in Mediterranean made it an important commercial center. What do I mean by commercial? • Land surrounding the Tiber river was fertile for farming • Proximity to Greek colonies led to knowledge of growing grapes and olives • Social • Greek, Etruscan and Latin influences

  7. Roman Mythology • According to legend, Rome was founded by Romulusand Remus (twin brothers)

  8. Copy Cats! • The Romans based their religion on Greek Mythology • They were also polytheistic • Many of the gods/goddesses were the same, but the Romans changed their names • The gods explained human qualities and natural events that they couldn’t otherwise explain.
