  7. QCI support to Government Supporting government hospitals to adapt Quality Standards at different levels. Conducting awareness seminars for state government hospitals. Conducting awareness seminars in association with State Blood Transfusion Councils to make blood banks aware about Quality Improvement.

  8. Hospital Accreditation • Accreditation standards for hospitals: • Applicable to hospitals having more than 50 beds. • Super-speciality centres (single/ multiple) • Super Speciality centres are the centres which reflect requirement of DM/ MCh or equivalent qualified personnel.

SHCO Accreditation • Small Health Care Organizations (SHCO) • Those healthcare organizations having bed strength between 20 to 50 beds and are in possession of supportive and utility facilities that are appropriate and relevant to the services being provided by organization. • Exclusions • -       Polyclinics • -       Diagnostic Centres • -       Superspeciality* centres (single/ multiple) • Exceptions • Speciality** Day Care centres (minimum bed strength not mandatory) •  ================================================================= • * Super Speciality centres are the centres which reflect requirement of DM/ MCh or equivalent qualified personnel. • ** Speciality centres are the centres which reflect requirement of MD/ MS or equivalent qualified personnel.

  10. Blood Bank Accreditation Types of Blood banks as per service offered: • Storage centers • Service units: stand alone/ hospital base • Regional Blood Transfusion Centers • Model/ Central Blood Bank

  11. Government Initiative • NACO, MOHFW has issued directives to its 12 model blood banks to go for accreditation • State governments (Gujarat, Delhi, Kerala, Tamilnadu, UP, MP, Andhra Pradesh) initiated programs for healthcare accreditation

  12. QCI Initiative for PHC/CHC • Initiatives to strengthen healthcare services at PHC/CHC level. • Accreditation standard for PHC/CHC developed • Formation of State Quality Cell to coordinate accreditation activities in the state • Organizing “Train The Trainer” programs

  13. QCI Initiative for PHC/CHC • Monitor the activities of “Quality Cell” for smooth functioning • Model being set up in the state of Gujarat • First PHC (Gadhboriad, Dist. Vadodara, Gujarat) has been accredited

  15. QCI Essential Standard for Medical Testing Laboratories

Needs and Objective • The number of Indian laboratories (currently estimated at 100,000) is growing and the trend is expected to continue. • The reliability of test results from medical testing laboratories is essential. • Adherence to quality standards varies among India’s laboratories, and relatively few medical labs are currently capable of achieving accreditation to global ISO 15189 standards. • Therefore, a national minimal quality standard for medical laboratories and a rigorous education-based approach are warranted.

Why it is important? • Minimize lab fears, even the smallest labs, through awareness programming, mentoring & education • Make it affordable & effective, regardless of lab size or location, or current sophistication • Implement using an operational partner that Empowers, even the smallest labs, through education • Enable State & National health crises planning and response to health crisis, such as pandemic diseases
