L- Look for the Facts • Basically this case was talking about whether ratting out people for the greater good was right, an attorney was brought into court to explain the misrepresentations of a sworn statement by a police officer and after he did so had consequences by being transferred to another courthouse and being denied a promotion, he brought it to court saying that the First amendment protected him while the Supreme Court decided Statements made by public employees pursuant to their official duties are not protected by first Amendment from employer discipline. Whilstleblowers and the witnessprotection program were outraged. • For our case the only two options are to be for whistle blowing or against whistle blowing. Our group is for whistleblowing.
I- Imagine the Possibilities • Whistleblowing is a tough moral dilemma because there are many aspects involved such as people involved. • For our group the situation, and the possible effects from whistleblowing. Close friends or important people involved and the aspects of your situation. • Someone can it or to be more inclined to not blow the whistle if against it is one of his/hers best friends regardless whether whislteblowing would benefit the community or a larger group. • The bond between friends can cloud your judgment and others opinions would affect you heavily when they judge your friend who has done something wrong.
S- Seek Insight Beyond Your Own • If I was Richard Ceballos, my family would advise me to come forward and report my concerns just like Ceballos. If would do this because I would want to do the right thing by whistle blowing. • When talking to my friends/group, they would want me to do what Ceballos witch was to whistle blow • There is a giant legal issue involved in this ethical case and that is when Ceballos went to the district court for the central district of California and saying that when he was denied Of whistle blowing. At first the district court ruled that he was not entitled o the first amendment but was later reversed. • If Jesus was in Ceballos' situation he would do the right thing and do exactly what Ceballos did in the first place. • In the bible, it approves of whistle blowing • What my church would do is it would do the smartest option and do what Ceballos did. They teach that it is perfectly fine to do whatever it take to do the right thing If you have to do a bad thing to cause the good thing • The ninth commandment, thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor is the best commandment to describe this case.
T- Turn Inward • There would be multiple opinions of whether or not to do it and there would be many opinions but the most important thing to do only options is to figure out your motives and what your conscience be for whistle blowing is telling you. • You must first understand and find your motives to be for whistleblowing and why you would blow the whistle. • Your motives can involve the people involved and the aspects of your situation. • Therefore you must look inward and listen to your conscience because your conscience does not listen to outside opinions or clouded by friendship. You must delve deep into your mind and clear your head which will help you listen to your conscience.
E- Expect God’s Help • It is important to think of what Jesus would do in this situation. • Would Jesus let the person continue to sin or stop him and try to teach the person his lesson. • God will help in many ways and will help you to make your decision but you must accept his help.
N- Name Your Decision • Our group is for whisleblowing in every way possible at school and in law. • It isalways good to uphold the law/rules so if people whisleblow then others will learn to do the right thing even if know one is watching. • For an example, lets say that you were in a gang and you are with your friend and they tell you they had murdered a man. would you tell the cops or keep it quiet. • If you tell the cops and turn him in then you know you will help put a cold hearted criminal down. The rest of gang could not get you because of the witness protection agency • If you do not tell the cops then you will be friends with a murder in a gang that kills people and if you were found in this gang then you might get arrested for just being with them even if you didn’t do any thing wrong.
