The Iguanodon was the first discovered and recorded dinosaur. Gideon Algernon Mantell named it the Iguanodon in 1825.
The Iguanodon’s name means Iguana tooth. It is cool because it has a spike on its thumb. The Iguanodon has 4 fingers plus a conical thumb spike on each hand to defend himself.
The Iguanodon is 16 feet [49m] tall, 30-40 feet [9-12] long, and weighs 3-5 tons.
It eats nipped cycads and other prehistoric plants. Its diet is plants.
This dinosaur lived in the early to middle Cretaceous period - 140 to 110 million years ago in Great Britain, Mongolia, North America, and Europe.
